According to a new report, Amazon employees appear to have been caught ‘purchasing services from trafficked sex workers.’
Engadget reports:
The tech industry has a clear history of sexism and misogyny, but a recent Newsweek report highlights another problem. The publication got its hands on a slew of emails sent to brothels and pimps between 2014 and 2016 that document the industry’s patronage of brothels and purchasing of services from trafficked sex workers. Among the emails, which were obtained through a public records request to the King County Prosecutor’s Office, were 67 sent from Microsoft employee email accounts, 63 from Amazon accounts and dozens more from companies like Boeing, T-Mobile, Oracleand local Seattle tech firms.
Some of the emails were collected during a 2015 sting operation that targeted sex worker review boards and resulted in the arrest of 18 individuals, including high-level Amazon and Microsoft directors. Two opted for a trial, which is currently set to begin in March.

The typical tech guy is an obese nerd. For many, hookers are their only outlet for sex. Give ‘em a break.

I don’t care who does what with their money. However, trafficked sex workers are often children.
As much glee as we may take in this report sadly this is the rule and not the exception.
When VR porn and body suits get more mainstream, hookers may become an endangered species.

Not too surprising. Microsoft’s 10s of thousands of employees are equal to a city. The question should be why only 67?
Sounds more like Tech guys who can’t get laid hired hookers.
Conflating human trafficking with prostitution justs makes me doubt that human trafficking is actually going on.

I recently saw a news blip on the telly in the dentist’s office where they already have a female robot on the market for $15,000 which is supposed to give a great simulation of intercourse.
That’s my reaction. A surprising number of men with a lot of money, or even just a little, will spend it on the oldest profession. That’s why that profession exists. I’m always disappointed in those who patronize prostitutes, and in this case I’m a little startled that it’s done from a work email account, but otherwise I don’t see this as news.
Who in their right mind would place an Alexa listening device in their home to allow govt access to your conversations?
Who in their right mind would have an iPhone with facial technology that can add your face to a global ID database?
It’s a crime of course, and the use of work accounts is pretty brazen. However, I wouldn’t say “scandal” about something so ordinary, and I certainly don’t see what Mr. Bezos’s involvement is.
Of course prostitutes in Seattle are trafficked from Asia. Duh. If Amazon puts its new HQ in Charlotte (which my son says is a rumor Uptown), they’ll get their underage girls from Central America.
