Continuous eye contact between dogs is an assertion of dominance. Some dogs will make you prove it.

A guy I know raises em to specfically hunt wild hogs. That’s about the only good purpose that I can think of for em.
When he lets em loose out the cage, “Katie bar the door” because whatever hog they’re after is coming down. He’s lost 2 or 3 to tusk cuts from the big boars.
I’ve seen em cut to shreds and just keep on fighting that pig to their last breath.
Vicious.

"familyop, are you really Chet99?"

No.

"He would post these pit bull threads EVERYDAY."

Incidents of people being mauled by pit bulls happen often. I tend to pay more attention to foreign relations, politics and other topics.

If I wanted to, I could probably find stories about pit bulls mauling people nearly every day by searching the Net for them. All one needs to do is to follow the site rules to avoid being banned.

Some of the places where these dogs are popular or common are large subdivisions of smallish homes, separated by chain link fences. Every lot has one or two pits or Rotts. You can”t leave your house unoccupied for an hour or get a night’s sleep without being robbed without the dogs. And it may be your neighbor or their kids doing the robbing.

Your logic tells me banning them right now is the way to go.

The criminals will identify themselves and we take their asses out along with their dogs.

You miss my point. Very few people are experts at training dogs but with most breeds they tolerate the limited training skills of their owner with little or no resultant danger.

The Pit Bull however demands expert training and persistent capable management to keep the breeds inherent volatility controlled. And that’s still no guarantee. Sometimes they just freakin “go off”

Bottom line, stay the hell away from owning the breed....you’re asking for trouble.

I actually had to beat the aggressiveness out of my golden.....a very aggressive pup, that is now a very sweet old dog. Not a dog for children in her youth.

If somebody that has no interest in dogs whatsoever get attacked by a dog in their neighborhood just because they weren't up to date on canine non-verbal communication, is the victim at fault somehow?

IUnsocialized dogs are at least half of the problem. A puppy doesn’t learn empathy until it’s seventh week. Most dogs get farmed out at 5 or 6 weeks, and are discipline problems, at best, violent in worst cases.

Amen....you have to be insane to own one.

I consider their owners to be on the trashy side. Something wrong with people willing to risk exposing children and elderly to such an unpredictable breed.

I’d fault the owner with the loose dog. But we live in a country full of dogs. Situational awareness applies. You’ re obliged to avoid traffic accidents, even if you’re not at fault.

"Maybe for a start somehow modifying them, even through some cross-breeding? Perhaps an breeder who does so gets a tax break?"

Crossbreed with tiny dogs--artificial insemination, if necessary. Then give away the pups with word about how large and protective they'll grow to be. Saturate the country with them, until criminals can no longer find pups from the bigger breed. Start intensified law enforcement efforts to pick up and dispose of the bigger ones (drugs, alcohol, domestic disputes, animal running at large, other violations). Make more animal control positions with slightly better pay and prestige. Advertise for tips about possible pickups.

That crazed dog is treating that child like it’s a stuffed play toy. I would guess pit bulls just playing rough with a child could kill the child.

I hope the dog in the clip was put down immediately.

In the 80s, our friends had a pit bull. Back then, they were just ‘normal’ dogs...even cuddly (Remember Spuds Mckenzie). So this was before it was discovered how well adapted they were to be trained to fight and kill. But still, one day this dog we had been around for years and were very familiar with just snapped and attacked my brother. Even a docile pitbull has an inner aggressiveness that can come bubbling to the top.

Exactly.

Pitbulls are mostly great dogs.

The ones that are dangerous make it clear pretty quick.

Need to feel them our before introducing them into an environment with soft targets.

So using the video in post 70 as an example, the kid that took off running just before the dog entered the picture is displaying proper situational awareness, and the kid who was attacked is in need of an education, I guess.
