Teddy's description of the Chappaquiddick "accident" was enough to convict him of involuntary and voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
Today you can add homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, a mandatory three-year prison term in most states.
The facts are simple. Kennedy drove fast, probably drunk, off a bridge at about 11:30 P.M. The pond was only about six feet deep. The front end of the car was angled down.
Kennedy walked away, went to his hotel, and waited until the next morning to report to the police. The car was discovered by two boys fishing in the morning. The boys, unlike Teddy, went to a nearby house to report the car in the water. Had Teddy done this instead of leaving, Mary Jo Kopechne probably would have been saved.
Kennedy spent the night at his hotel room drying out so there would be no alcohol in his system, and to fabricate with his fixers the statement he gave the police. During the time Kennedy was at his hotel with his fixers, Mary Jo died from suffocation.
It was negligence to drive too fast and off the road while drunk, which is involuntary manslaughter. But it was far more criminal to leave her in the car for eight or more hours, without calling for help, which may get into voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. Kennedy had to explain why he waited almost eight hours to report to the police and had to explain why he left Mary Jo in the car.
The substance of the statement concocted by Kennedy and his fixers is that it took him until morning to realize what happened, and he did not know that Mary Jo was in the car when he left the pond.

The Kennedy family has more measurable unethical, immoral and yes, evil, behavior through it’s history that volumes more could be written, but, other than their being members of the Democrat Party, need we say more? Let those that have passed on all rot in hell where they belong. As for their progeny, most of them seem to continue to self-destruct, one way or the other. Good riddance. Thank God the Clinton’s only had one rotten offspring; hopefully she’ll fade away. None of these members of the American Royalty ever go to jail, so wishing for that is a waste of time. Self-destruction seems to be the ticket. So be it.
It’s not too late. It should be released on the 50th anniversary of the event, 2019. Pardon Sirhan Sirhan on the same day. It would be the wrong way to stick it to the left but I’d do it for effect.

The diver took the initiative to sketch the position of Mary Jo’s cadaver as he found her. She was positioned with her head in the foot well of the car where the last air pocket would have been. She probably lived anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes depending upon the amount of air trapped inside. In the absolute darkness and confusion of the upside down vehicle she may have thought she was much deeper than she really was.
The diver’s sketch may have decided the Democratic presidential primary in 1980 where even Jimmy Carter beat Teddy. It is quite possible that if Kennedy had gone to the nearby Dyke house and responsibly reported the accident Mary Jo would have been saved by the same diver who made the sketch.
If this account is true, 6 feet of water? There’s just no reason the girl could not have been pulled out of the car with life saving attempts tried.
And left abandoned until discovered the next morning? Shear pure arrogance.
What’s bothersome is this jerk was repeatedly reelected by Massachusetts. Just as disgusting as obama getting a second term. My point is, MA and CA are both in the same class as being leaders of destroying America. The difference is the arrogance many MA people have that is so typical of New England dems.

These political families - Kennedy, Bush, Clinton - have damaged our country more than any foreign entity has ever done. History needs to shine the bright light of truth upon these people.
Old Teddy probably had his pants down around his knees when he missed the bridge.
Reason enough for a politician to not care much about the only witness winding up dead.
I've seen reported that Teddy was driving without an active license. He'd let it lapse. And that that alleged fact wasn't reported until a few months after the legal hearings, during which its lack would have required higher charges.
