Starting Jan. 1, anyone 21 and older will be able to legally buy marijuana in California with just an ID.
However, only shops with both local permits and state licenses to sell recreational cannabis will be able to open their doors to customers who don’t have doctor’s recommendations for medical marijuana.
The Bureau of Cannabis Control on Dec. 14 started issuing temporary licenses for recreational marijuana sales. Here’s a map of every shop that’s so far sanctioned to sell cannabis to adults on New Year’s Day. The map will be updated frequently, with new state licenses issued each day.

Don’t shoot the messenger. This has been happening more recently. I would like to see the Feds do what they said and let the states deal with it.
Thanks for posting. Two older family members both use a marijuana cream for their arthritis. The new law will make it easier for them to obtain it, so they don’t have to rely on their kids or grandkids.

The vape thing is far more out of control than cigarettes ever we’re.
People don’t believe me when I tell them I can’t smoke pot. Two hits and I get the drunk spins. If I’ve been drinking I’ll actually throw up. They tell me.....oh that must’ve been too strong or you got some bad stuff.
It’s weird. When I was a teenager it didn’t do that to me. It started when I was 22 or 23. It’s ok since I like drinking better anyway. Lol
Saw a John Stossel documentary on Portugal.
They have no drug laws at all.
They have less teenage drug use than we do.
The kids see these drug addicts on the street and don’t want to end up like them

Our homeless ride bikes if they have any transportation.
The close to homeless buy an old rv, park it for a few nights move them after they empty their holding tanks.
Too cold in Colorado and Idaho to be really homeless, so they come to California via one way tickets from other areas for the winter.

Yep, the kids love them, the small ones are basically invisible, the kids hit the cannabis juice in school and the teachers never know.
The genie is out of the bottle and it’s not crawling back in. Most of the American population either lives in a state where mj is legal or is within reasonable driving distance of a state where it’s legal.
We had a problem with vagrants long before legalization of pot.

These wandering hordes, and their extensive semi-permanent encampments, are impacting property values, putting pressure on police budgets, and straining local community social services.
It bears repeating: you can either pay to imprison addicts for drug convictions, or you can pay to jail substance abuses for vagrancy. Either way, the net-net cost will be approximately the same. Or, you can let them wander the streets, depressing values, and putting an indirect drain on economic activity, the total (imputed) cost which will also come out about the same as the criminal justice option (ie jail or prison).
FR tends to get into these juvenile spats, as if it's a moral question where one can claim a morally superior position, when it's really just about financial decisions. It really is quite simple: does society want to cover the costs of keeping the streets free of addicts or not? Just note that the costs of keeping the streets free include encroachments on *everyone's* civil liberties.
Or, is the sight of groups of homeless sprawled out in filth and squalor, of bum fights and arguments, of debased street side prostitution, all too much of a visual burden? Think about what events led us to our current state back in the 1920s. Every generation thinks their experiences are unique, but societies have had to deal with this same quandary since governments were formed 1000s of years ago.

This is the cost of de-decriminalization without concomitant enforcement of vagrancy laws.
The alternative of course is prohibition, which carries the penalties of warrantless searches, no-knock raids, asset forfeiture and other civil rights horrors.
The bottom line is there isn't any answer. Rather, there are only choices of how to manage the fact that some percentage of the population will decide that it's more attractive to get/stay wasted 24/7, even if it means sleeping in your own sh!t.
PS We live further down by the beach. I go for a jog along the river trail most mornings. I typically get cheered on by a few cracking their first beer of the morning.
