Did anyone see that launch. I was about 80 miles out and it was the strangest launch I've ever seen at a distance. On the west coast you can still see the initial trails even though it's dark here.
Multiple shock waves and explosions were seen as if they were detonating it yet the main stage seem to go off out into the Pacific. One piece or stage was seen coming down almost to sea level from a distance.

You were seeing first stage re-entering and splashing down, it did not fly back to the drone ship for this launch.
The shock waves were created by the high mach number re-entry.

We saw it! Mostly amazing thing I’ve ever seen in the sky!

Here in Virginia the only launches we see are the very occasional launches from Wallops Island.

I’ve never see a launch like this from Vandenberg and I’ve see many. Not even close.

I used to live by Vandenberg and see missile launches all the time. It became routine but still the whole town would stop and watch. In school, some kid would shout, "MISSILE!" and we'd all run out to look.
It's pretty cool close up.
Sometimes they blew up.

They did a landing on the water for the first stage. Expendable this time.
