MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI - Jeffrey Willis chose not to stay in court to hear his murder victim's family share their grief and anger, but he couldn't escape hearing their words that were repeatedly played for him on his trip to prison.
Muskegon County Sheriff Michael Poulin said he had a compact disc created from recordings of the victim impact statements delivered by Rebekah Bletsch's family in court Monday. He gave the 25-minute CD to two transport officers who played the disc five times in the cruiser that was used to transport Willis to prison Wednesday, Poulin said.
"I don't find it that important that Jeffrey Willis heard what the family had to say, but that the family knew he heard what they said," Poulin said.

Good job, Sheriff!!!
God bless these cops.
Well played, Sheriff.

That’s an awesome idea..... maybe it should be expanded, make all murderers hear such recordings in their cells as long as they live!!!
Why not do this to every prisoner 24/7? pipe it through the corridors of every prison. Playing victims statements for every crime. The cons wouldn’t be able to have a clear thought in their head. It may even encourage quite a few of them to kill themselves and save the taxpayers money.
Perhaps he should be made to listen to that CD repeating ad infinitum for the duration of his sentence. At 110 decibels. We can give him a little break, however, by playing a CD of water dripping for an hour a day.
Now that’s a sheriff who is going places !
Now undertake the torture and public execution of this creature !
Which, unfortunately, is way too long.
There are a few bad apples here and there, but in general the county sheriffs are the best of our elected officials.
I agree.
I just posted this about the Sheriff in my county.

I don’t understand this need to confront the killer of a loved one.
I would assume that a murderer would enjoy the misery he had caused and I would not reveal my pain to the killer.
That pain is between me and my missing loved one and God.
That murder has an empty hole for a soul.
How does someone become so heartless?
I’m thinking, some folks are made that way by trauma. Some folks are born that way, and can never be fully changed.
Well done, gentlemen.
I agree.
You make a valid point. A true sociopath or psychopath will not care about, or may even revel in, the misery he has caused.
I think the reason most people want to make victim statements, and require murderers to hear about the pain they have caused, is that they hold out hope, no matter how slim, that these people have some shred of human conscience, no matter how small and no matter how deeply buried.
Sweet justice.
In prison they can make him listen to the Big fella 3 hours a day. The rest f the time, Barry Manilow.
Bravo, Sheriff Poulin!
