The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly backed a measure critical of President Donald Trumps decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel despite U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haleys warning that the move could put funding for their nations and the global body at risk.
The nonbinding UN resolution passed on Thursday by a vote of 128-9, with 35 nations abstaining. Key U.S. allies backing the measure over Trumps threats included the U.K., France, Italy, Japan and Germany. The U.S. was joined in opposition by countries including Guatemala, Nauru and Micronesia. Abstentions included Australia, Canada and Argentina.
The United States will remember this day when it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly, Haley said at the U.N. podium ahead of the vote. We will remember it when so many countries come calling on us, as they often do, to pay even more. This vote will be remembered.

We were all asked to vote no or face the consequences, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said before Thursdays vote. Some even threatened to cut development aid. This is bullying. It is unethical to think that the votes and dignity of member states are for sale.

He who laughs last . . .
maybe they were not just threats
Hilarious. Sounds like a spoiled brat for the first time in their life, being told that actions have consequences.
nonbinding UN resolution = nothing
I don't think your vote and your dignity are for sale, sir, I KNOW they are for sale. It just so happens that you have sold them to the wrong party this time.
Cut the money.
I think it would be hilarious if the U.S. vetoed the non-binding resolution...
Q: What is the difference between a Mizzou snowflake and a United Nations snowflake.
A: Student loans
We shouldn’t make idol threats of pulling funding unless we are damn well willing to follow through.
“Now, if you don’t behave yourself, little Johnnie, I’m going to give you a spanking... and I mean it... this time....”
Unfortunately, the US can’t do that. This is the General Assembly, not the Security Council.

That’s right!
Darn it.
But it is still only a threat.
Nikki Haley told them she’d take names-now pres Trump will kick ass-shut down the ATM and let’s see what happens...
Let’s see, the majority voting block of the UN is OIC. So the UN/Islam sure voted the way they did.
How did we _ever_ get to the point where we’re part of an international institution which is dominated by Islam?
Why are we paying for an instution mostly _controlled_ by Islam?
Keep a naughty and nice list, Nikki.
Screw them.
What an idiotic headline. “UN Defies Trump”... You only “defy” someone when they have some kind of authority over you and you ignore or simply refuse to go along. The UN decided (by a vote of that irrelevant body) to reject the US announcement of recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel (and the associated plan to move the embassy there). What we recognize or do in this case has zero dependency on what the UN or any nation thinks or wants.
Let the U.N. lead itself into the ashbin of irrelevancy. Just a bunch of Jew-hating socialists anyway.
