Quad Cities? Not familiar with the term.
They came there from Nebraska with high humidity in the Summer months, so maybe the “dry heat” felt good to them. I don’t know, it was before I was born.
I live in high desert dry heat where it commonly hits well over 100 for days on end and it is much more tolerable than the low 90s and high humidity of east Texas where I spent my Summers as a child.
Same goes for all the Southern states. You had to be some kind of tough to live down here before the invention of a/c.
You can thank Carrier and Trane. Without them, you Arizonians would still be a backwater.
Not too far from Mena!
I sure miss AZ. When I was a kid, AJ and Mesa were separate. I lived in AJ, population 20,000 +- in the summer and 100,000 in the winter, so they said. I used to ride motorcycles and shoot in the desert out south Meridian, where my friend’s folks owned an auto salvage. I lived in Payson almost my entire adult life. I’ve been in Indiana for six very long years.
At least we’re not a Democrat cesspool, so we got that goin for us.
Still a few junkyards out that way.
Ha! Good one.
But historically, it's the conservative Californians that made the move. I was one of them 25 years ago.
Not sure about the future of the state. Like Nevada, it may start turning purple. Hope not, but we'll see.
We have zero Dem Senators and a Repub gov...how bout you?
I think the freeway goes right over the patch of desert we used to traipse. Great memories. I do have to say, however, that the Valley sure takes a lot less time to get around these days. It was a full hour to get to the rodeo grounds in Scottsdale to race BMX from our house in AJ.
Yes. Former Clinton country. But those days are long gone. Arkansas now is probably the reddest state in the Union.
Yes. Pre-1988 or so was tough. Barely any freeways.
Do you remember Ski Haus?
AJ....
being Apache Junction?
I’ll be there soon.
Are you counting McCain and Flake as humans or stock?
Most of them here in Phoenix! (Or so it seems)
“Quad Cities? Not familiar with the term.”
From Wikipedia:
The towns of Prescott Valley, 7 miles (11 km) east; Chino Valley, 16 miles (26 km) north; Dewey-Humboldt, 13 miles (21 km) east, and Prescott, together comprise what is locally known as the “Quad-City” area. This also sometimes refers to central Yavapai County in general, which would include the towns of: Mayer, Paulden, Wilhoit, and Williamson Valley. Combined with these smaller communities the area had a population of 103,260 as of 2007. Prescott is the center of the Prescott Metropolitan Area, defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as all of Yavapai County.
Sounds like you really liked Az. Are you from Arkansas?
