Excellent write up on conjecture about how the next civil war might look and play out. Many good comments, too.

We, on the other hand, would be critically short of new Hollywood movies. Without a steady supply of the works of Meryl Streep and Matt Damon, millions of conservatives would instantly drop dead from boredom – that is, according to Meryl Streep.

Hehe...

It would likely resemble the Yugoslavian breakup and regional wars fought there. Mixed populations forced to move to safer areas.

Pretty interesting, thanks for posting! Fascinating to ponder. Very sad to contemplate.

Makes one want to stock food for longer than most of us already do.

Being as how lefty journalists, judges, and democrat politicians would find themselves to be initial targets, I would expect a quick resolution. Probably be over before anitfa could trash a Starcucks.

“What Might Civil War Be Like?”

It’s already started.

"What Might Civil War Be Like?"

It depends on whether or not both sides have much of a will to fight. If there's much of a will on at least two sides, then it would be a lifelong experience of exhaustion, squalor and early death for most people involved, including nearly all who delude themselves into believing that they would remain comfortable or prestigious.

If only one side (of even several) in the hypothetical situation had much of a real will to fight, however, it would end very quickly with a few smaller roundups.

Having just finished up Matt Bracken’s trilogy on just such a scenario, I was interested to see the following comment from the article Comments Section:

JohnFRoss • 9 hours ago

I am a novelist, and people I know often ask me my thoughts on the possibility of a full-blown, modern-day civil war in America, as opposed to a much more limited conflict such as the coordinated targeting of sellout politicians or corrupt government agencies.

I have thus far resisted embarking on such a tale, not because I cannot envision such an event happening, but because a good story requires a protagonist the reader cares about, set against a cunning antagonist, with the stakes set at tremendously high levels for the country as a whole. I haven’t been able to dream up a story like that set in the middle of nationwide chaos.

One novelist who HAS touched on the topic of modern civil war is retired Navy Seal Matthew Bracken, both in his novels and frequent blog posts. Bracken’s military background gives him a realistic assessment of “what if” scenarios that goes far beyond the idle musings of most armchair pundits.

In his blogs, a frequent question Bracken often asks us to ponder is “What happens when the EBT cards all turn up empty at the same time?” Schmutzli’s hypothetical take on a war between conservative, small-government patriots and the Grievance Class is one based in ideology, but ideology takes a back seat to immediate survival when faced with utter chaos.

One place Bracken agrees with the author of this piece is that the country will be divided along urban/rural lines, with those in the rural areas having vastly more of the equipment, skills, and capacity for food production that are useful in fighting any kind of war.

My own take is to agree with this assessment, and to point out that in times of peril, people must make snap decisions, and making the wrong decision just once means you die. The reality is that under such conditions, the people that survive are the ones who don’t take chances, so decision-making becomes one of identifying the enemy and killing him before he can get close enough to hurt you.

The elephant in the living room that no one wants to talk about is the likeliest method that the fighters in rural areas are going to use to quickly identify the enemy at a distance.

I’d bet a lot of money that they’ve watched thousands of YouTube videos, and have already made up their minds on this issue...

I wish a civil war would start. I'm itching to go.

I want to fight against the evil democrats/marxists and the media.

We need to use the tactics of StoneWall Jackson who defeated armies 3x the size time and time again

My mind imagines something akin to what happened to the Roman Empire after it fell from within. After a few decades, most areas lacked the skill and discipline to maintain civilization. Life became centered around day-to-day survival and defense against marauding violent warriors. Some areas survived, some consolidated under feudal leaders, some lay in ruins.

I suspect the US would be like that. It won't be Civil War so much as a federal government that can't or won't protect us. Areas will defend themselves, with different cultures and different skill sets setting the direction.

Morgan Llewelyn is a wonderful writer of well researched and well thought out historical fiction One of her first books, The Winds of Hastings, though not as skilled as her later writing, brings alive the story of Elana of Saxony, one of her ancestors.

I ramble. My point is that it'll be another disconnected Dark Ages of sorts, but with some areas maintaining terrific survival skills.

Here’s what I do know: it won’t erupt suddenly and without warning. The initial action will be common people, simply refusing to do what they consider to be immoral.

It’s already started.

A Civil War will begin when Patriotic Americans refusing to obey Fascist Unconstitutional Laws, forcing the Jack Booted Authorities to go door to door to enforce them.

When that happens, one Brave Citizen will fight back and he / she will light the fuse of a modern Shot heard round the World.

When people realize that their Lives will never be the same if they simply comply to Fascism, they will fight for freedom.

Or not...

I think we have already taken the off ramp to that road, but unlike some, I am not anticipating it, I am dreading it.

When or if it comes, it is going to be bloody, violent, and full of death, privation, deprivation and sorrow, and nearly all (not all, since some revel in this) will wish there were some way we could have avoided it.

It may not be avoidable, but I can guarantee there will be only a very few who are going to ‘like’ it after a period of time.

To begin with, it would not look like the first American Civil War,

This premise is wrong. The break up will be state by state and the war will be regional. The city vs state thing is bogus. Cities have to go with the state. If a state secedes from the union then all the cities in that state secedes.

Read Civil War Two: The Coming Breakup of America by Thomas W Chittum. Chittum is a Viet Nam vet who later became a mercenary in Croatia, and witnessed the warfare in the Balkans.
