‘It’s Very Expensive:’ Most Teachers Say Immigration Has Harmful or Mixed Impact
Breitbart ^ | 12/17/17 | John Binder

Most public school teachers say mass immigration has a “mixed” or a “negative” impact on American schoolkids.

The Education Week Research Center survey reveals that 52 percent of public schoolteachers share mixed feelings about admitting more than one million legal immigrants a year into the U.S. — not including those who enter the country illegally every year — or said that immigration is generally “bad” for the education system. Only 38 percent said the impact was good. Ten percent declined to say.

Concerning Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) illegals:

“If I’m standing in line to get a cup of coffee, I don’t want people butting in line,” said Tim Erickson, a special education teacher at Detroit Lakes High School in northwestern Minnesota and a political independent. “We have rules for a reason, and people should follow them.”

Teachers who voted for President Trump in the 2016 presidential election are far more likely to agree that immigration comes with its negative impact on public schools, with 66 percent saying they have mixed views on the issue, and 20 percent saying immigration is a bad thing for schools:

Just watch the Teachers Unions try to find out who criticized our immigration policy so that they can be taken to the woodshed.

Immigration is killing our school systems. In Fairfax County four years ago, the school system was spending $104 million a year on ESOL teachers alone. This didn’t include addressing special educational needs of these students. Some elementary schools in Fairfax County have over 80% of the students on ESOL. One can imagine the impact on the 20% of the American students.

"Only 38 percent said the impact was good"

38 percent are too stupid to be teaching.

‘Very expensive’? How about INSANELY expensive? Illegals cost this country between $400 and $600 BILLION DOLLARS per year (and this was from estimates from years ago)- Of course this cost includes estimates of all incidentals caused by illegals, lawyers, therapy, lost wages etc etc etc when they commit crimes against Americans, however, the costs to educate are also included- and illegals are draining this country (who by the way can’t seem to find enough money for it’s elderly, sick and veterans- Deporting illegals, deporting people overstaying their visas etc and building a wall might cost upwards of $50 billion- but so what? That is a drop in the bucket compared to what we will save every single year- Illegals are draining our country of funds- and liberals just keep pouring illegals into this country and offering them free this that and the other thing like we have no money worries of our own

Our schools are always asking for more money for new buildings and teachers. “Class sizes of 31 are too high....” In my kid’s former grade school they could have cut the class size in half I bet if they got rid of the illegals.

Funny - as little kids they were all fun and nice and my kids like them and got along. By the time they were in high-school, not so much. Its too bad - seeing them all in grade school gave me hope that some of the race issues were going away.

Yep. Maybe it's time to go all Hanson Brothers on these teachers' union goons when they come to visit the immigration critics.

I don’t see why a masters is necessary to teach, anyway.
My best college instructor in accounting was a practicing professional with no masters. Make it a bachelor degree and solve the shortage.

It is not only illegal aliens, but also legal immigrants who are bankrupting us. We take in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year. Immigrants, legal and illegal and their US born children account for 80% of our annual population growth.

Is it not amazing how times have changed. We had one girl from India and one girl from Puerto Rico in my school—it was big news when both arrived. That meant that the majority of the taxpayer dollars went to educating students in English.

Immigrants with families having a good work ethic and tolerance in religious beliefs will work out well. Having a good work ethic including learning our dominant language needs emphasis.

America was a Judeo/Christian nation and that's what made it special. Our work ethic came from that. Immigrants have to learn it after they come here.

It is very expensive to have immigrants from so many countries. The NYC school system has students from like 114 different countries. This requires ESL teachers (whose grasp of their so-called academic subject is quite often inferior, so they got their job because of their knowledge of a given foreign language), ESL textbooks, a lot more effort to style lessons and exams, social workers, special liaison personnel to translate phone calls to parents or other interactions with parents, special editions of state exams in many languages, and endless other expenses.

At first, most immigrant students work hard and are respectful, as they were taught to be in their native country. But all too soon, they adopt the mores of their American cohorts and start to act out in class, be disrespectful, use filthy curse language (those are always the first English words they learn), cut class, not pay attention in class, etc. It's always heart wrenching to watch the process. It usually takes a year or two. It is typical for their parents not to assimilate, but to live in little self-imposed ghettos comprised of immigrants from their native country. It always ticked me off to the max to hear these ingrates, most often living off MY dime on food stamps, welfare, free medical care, the free education they were receiving, etc. refer to "MY country"---and they certainly did not mean the U.S.! It's like having multiple 5th columns in our midst, hardly an improvement in U.S. security. These people never develop any loyalty to the U.S.; they are here for the freebies. In time, a lot of these ungrateful users return to their native country, all educated, vaccinated, etc. courtesy of the sucker U.S. citizens.
