Officials of President Trump's transition team plan to ask Special Counsel Robert Mueller to return "many tens of thousands" of transition emails they contend were unlawfully provided to him. But the prosecutor's office says emails being used in the investigation were properly obtained. President Trump, returning to the White House on Sunday, said when asked about the emails: "Not looking good. It's not looking good. It's quite sad to see that. My people are very upset about it. I can't imagine there's anything on 'em, frankly, because as we said, there's no collusion. There's no collusion whatsoever. A lot of lawyers thought that was pretty sad." Keep reading 472 words
What's new: A source close to Trump's transition, which still exists as a legal entity so it can shut down what was once a 1,000-person operation, said the transition will send a letter to Mueller informing him that some of the emails are privileged, and asking for their return. The transition says it is willing to provide Mueller with vetted emails.
The source told me: "What they did is totally illegal, and they need to fix it."
But Peter Carr, spokesman for the Special Counsel's Office, told Axios early this morning: "When we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner's consent or appropriate criminal process." Be smart: Republicans, who have been raising increasing questions about Mueller's office, are prepared to argue that if emails were obtained by questionable means, that could taint or undermine the investigation.
What happened: Axios reported yesterday afternoon that officials of Trump's Presidential Transition Team, his office for the 73 days between the election and the inauguration, discovered that Mueller had obtained huge caches of emails from the General Services Administration...

Yes he has to tread carefully with all the landmines Bill, Booshes and Bam Bam set. We’ve always got the pearl-clutchers.
No it wasn’t.

Disbarment all around for Mueller’s team? Their worst RAT nightmare.
> If he lied about doing this, he was an idiot.
I think he lied about it, knowing full well that he had been recorded to help Trump gain additional info on who was unmasking US citizens (by managing to get his own phone call unmasked). I think it provided the ammo to fire Sally Yates, who was important to get out of the way early in establishing law and order. Said another way, Flynn took a bullet for the President.
Clinton, Obama and Michelle were disbarred, Holder found in contempt. Don’t mean a thing to them.
Trump should unmask he that isn’t a citizen.
I think the idea is to amass enough dough and power with your law license using crime as fast as you can before they disbar you, then run for office so you’ll be too big to jail.
Better to keep your enemy close up where he/she can be watched closely.
Why Trump does not fire Mueller? Because firing him will give the impression Mueller was closing in on something criminal on Trump’s behalf. My guess is Trump knows Mueller has nothing to snare him with, so he is giving Mueller time to come up empty handed. When that happens, Trump comes out smelling like a rose.
Which looks better, that Mueller found nothing criminal on Trump -or- Trump fired him?
sounds about right. I would add that those you did the crime for would be paying for your election and own you through your political career.
That was an excellent analysis.
And where was Trump’s advisor’s, chief counsel, election attorney’s ensuring an order was in place to not transmit transition emails by the GSA or any other department unless a court ordered subpoena presented. This is where Dems are so far ahead- they know the loopholes, they have experienced election teams to cover their butts.
They were not disbarred. They did fail to renew their law licenses. It is not the same thing.
Chris Christie would have been the guy to demand the GSA cease and desist, as transition director, no? I seem to remember a huge chunk of the transition staff which officed at the Heritage Foundation HQs were wiretapped as well. CINC’s team never issued a peep about that; perhaps that was their endgame, to bait obama’s people and get them all with it.
They were not disbarred. They did fail to renew their law licenses. It is not the same thing.
not true.
Barak and Michelle Obama surrendered their law licenses as part of separate court and bar ordered discpinary sanctions
Fruit from the poisonous tree, so no good in any legal way. At least it shouldn’t be. (Yeh right!). The leakers need to be found and imprisoned for life, or better yet—executed. Then, based on the chain rule used in immigration, destroy their family as well. (But not the pets.) Oh, and then bulldoze their house and property.
