On the heels of its horrific failures to repeal Obamacare, the troublesome Senate has finally gotten its act together enough to pass a $1.6 trillion tax cut. If it passes as expected, Americans can finally get the tax cut for Christmas that they elected a Republican Congress for, following years of Obama-era tax harvestings and stagnation. But it was a close call.
One name stands out as a stinker here, and it still stands out as a stinker even though he's now voting yes: Senator Marco Rubio. The supposed conservative from Florida was willing to derail the whole thing for all of us and cost the Senate its majority if he didn't get the tax refund credit he wanted.

Poster screwed up, makes it look as though the AUTHOR of this article is Rubio.
Rubio is not the author
Florida really needs to replace both its Senators.
Marco trying to reclaim one or two of his 15 minutes I guess.
The beneficiaries of Marco’s giveaway will still vote Rat, anyway.
Ooops, now I screwed up, or rather browser did. I thought comment had not posted. Sorry for duplication!
I pay plenty in taxes. You think raising four kids is cheap? Maybe if American families were having more kids, and could afford to keep mom at home to raise them, we wouldn't need to import others.
The Child Tax Credit encourages families like mine; large families with a single wage-earner among two married parents.
Anyhow, time and time again as shown Americans will consistently support entitlement reform as long as it takes away someone else's free stuff will leaving their own free stuff untouched.
Senator Rubio has earned my vote.
The guy is not good for our country...period.
Nice diatribe now try answering the question. If you and I make the same income should you pay less taxes than me?
If I'm raising kids, then yes.
But I doubt I'm paying less taxes than you are. With a large family, I probably live in a bigger house that costs more than yours does and I probably consume more goods than you do. And then there's the taxes that my four kids will be paying as future consumers and wage-earners themselves.
So don't worry. It'll all even out in the end.
Rubio is reminding us daily why he was such a horrid candidate for POTUS - and why he didn’t win in the primaries... He is more opportunist than patriot. His conservatism only goes as far as the media tells him he can go.
I see this tax bill as the last chance for the GOP to prevent a total landslide in the coming Senatorial and Congressional elections. The GOP has essentially failed to pass any significant action that they were elected to pass - they dropped the ball on Obamacare after sweeping to ever greater majorities at the state and national levels... They’ve dropped the ball on the budget. Dropped the ball on security and immigration. And now, as they are poised to actually make a tiny dent in the insanity that is our current income tax system... petty turds like Rubio are trying to derail that.
Ladies and gentlemen- if the GOP fails to finalize the tax deal - look for a wave of Democrat victories not seen in a hundred years. And we can thank the Rubios, the McCain’s and the McConnels....
So - the planned doubling of the tax credit already in the bill, plus the doubling of the personal deduction doesn’t help offset what the press has lied about this plan?
Or did the doubled child tax credit somehow disappear since the original bill was passed?
Seriously - everything I’ve read so far increased the child tax credit...
“Little Marco acting just like a dimm.”
Little Marco cannot make up is mind as to whether he is a dimoKKKRAT, RINO or a faux Conservative.
I've read that it is a $2000 child tax credit with the refundable portion increased from $1100 to $1400. That was the compromise that earned Rubio's vote. He had wanted the entire $2000 refundable. It's currently a $1000 refundable credit.
Changes to the child tax credit: What it means for families
Some changes that people here should like is that the tax credit now requires children to have a SSN. Before they didn't which meant "Dreamers" could qualify. This resulted in billions in fraudulent claims.
The Republican Congress is to be congratulated on the business tax reformation.
On the personal income tax side, color me unimpressed. This reform only reinforces that at the national level, there is no real difference in tax policy between the two parties, it is only a matter of degree.
A graduated income tax is straight from the Communist Manifesto; all the Republicans did was tweak the brackets and the bracket rates, keeping the pernicious central concept intact. They also increased the person exemptions, meaning more people will pay no tax while still voting on how much the upper brackets will pay; this is immoral because it violates the concept of equal treatment under the law.
I could go on; real reform will be a flat tax where everyone pays at the same rate. When everyone has to reach onto their pocket and pay the same amount on each buck they earn, then you will see the Fed govt. rapidly shrink to its rightful and sustainable size.
yep. And look folks, there are some other RINO clowns out there.
Heller
Flake
Collins
McCain
four of ‘em. and there are more. These are just off the top of my head.
Flake *says* he isn’t going to run for re-election. Hope his replacement is a constitutionalist.
McCain’s illness kind of indicates he won’t be around unless some sort of medical miracle takes place. Who knows?
Collins, after teasing us with a possible governor candidacy, has decided to stay on as the biggest female RINO in the Senate.
Heller, though, is vulnerable.
sorry, I didn’t mean to be snippy! :^)
“If you and I make the same income should you pay less taxes than me?”
Income is not the only factor.
Other factors include marital status, charitable giving, number of dependents, and many other potential deductions.
Child-related deductions and credits are not means tested. That is, anyone can get them, no matter how much they make.
So, if you want to get get tax credits and deductions for children, have some or go adopt some. Do you part to contribute to the future of civilization.
By the way, it costs about a quarter of a million dollars on average to raise a child in the USA today. These credits do not even scratch the surface in offsetting the costs of being a parent. This is not welfare. Raising children is an essential function to society.
Thanks for sharing the link. It says...
“The final version keeps a provision that requires filers using an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to provide Social Security numbers for each child in order to qualify for the credit. ITINs are mostly issued to undocumented immigrants. In 2013, 4.4 million ITIN filers claimed child tax credits worth $6 billion, according to the Government Accountability Office. The latest change will affect about one million undocumented children, CBPP calculates.”
That’s an improvement, but they should require proof of citizenship in order to pay negative taxes, as a minimum. Otherwise, we still may be paying for illegal aliens to live here.
Still, I support the child tax credit provision.
