Even before that, McConnell backed Moore in the first round of the primary just to get Mo Brooks out of the race. He just assumed Strange would beat Moore in the runoff, and that whole thing blew up in his face.

It didn’t end up blowing up in his face, it just let more people see who he really is. He is still getting his way though, for now.
