Roy Moore needed to lose — but what does it mean for 2018?
NY Post ^ | Dec 13, 2017 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 12/13/2017 1:14:45 AM PST by Oshkalaboomboom

America dodged a bullet in Alabama last night.

A man who was twice removed from his state’s Supreme Court for defying judicial orders, who said Muslims should not be allowed to serve in elective office, who suggested the black family was better off under slavery, and who declared that homosexuality should be illegal — this man will not be in the United States Senate. Thank God.

Note that I didn’t bring up the teenagers. Roy Moore was horribly unfit for high office — for any office — even if you put to one side the credible allegations against him for chasing girls as young as 14.

Democrats had no business winning. The special election for the Alabama Senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is one pretty much any Republican in the state could have won — except for Roy Moore. No Democrat has held a Senate seat there in a quarter century. Alabama went 62 percent for Donald Trump in 2016.

Truth to tell, Doug Jones didn’t really win it. Roy Moore lost it. The possibility of this despicable goon serving Alabama in Washington was so horrifying to so many Alabamians that Republicans stayed home in droves and Democrats who probably couldn’t have picked Jones out of a lineup on Election Day stampeded to the polls.

We put up with despicable goons writing opinion pieces, John. Roy or Mo Brooks could have easily won if it weren't for the interference of your NeverTrumper buddies like Mitch McConnell.

“Democrats had no business winning.”

They did, because of Roy Moore.

Satan's fan boys come out of the woodwork. God declared that sodomites should suffer capital punishment (Leviticus 20:13). He hasn't changed on the subject.

They hate Moore because he loves God's Word. They prefer their false god.

I hate Podhoretz, but Moore was defective. If primary voters knew what we knew about him going into Election Day, he would have finished last, and we’d either have a either have a Senator Brooks or Strange.

The Compost did what they do and kept their powder dry until Moore was locked onto the ballot and helped the Democrats steal a seat. The media intended to do the same thing to Trump w/ the Access Hollywood tape, which might have lost him the nomination if they released in the spring, but they held it back till October because they calculated that he was Crooked’s easiest opponent and it’d help her clinch the presidency. Their gamble backfired with Trump but worked here. We need to do a better job weeding out bad candidates because the media will otherwise do it at the most opportune time for the Democrats.

Very true. I didn't know that Moore had ran for Gov. twice and had lost.

That should have disqualified him.

The problem is that conservatives keep putting too many people in the primaries and the establishment guy usually wins or we get a defective candidate like Moore.

Roy Moore opposed the Uniparty Corporatists who for their own selfish reasons supported liberal sexuality which Moore opposes.

The open borders flood the country with cheap labor big business gang went after Moore, that’s for sure.

The elites want LGBT people to be low wage workers so they kiss their backsides and move on to flood this nation with low wage workers with Mitch and Co. in Washington unless Trump can stop them.

If 30 million dollars worth of outside interference wouldn't have tilted things we probably would have had Senator Brooks. Thank the GOPe.

This is a one off. Believe me.

They have been saying each of these is a referendum on Trump and then losing.

They got one win , so far

However, in 2018 they have 25 seats up, compared to 8 Republican.

They have, minimum, 11 at risk, while republicans have merely 1.

My guess is they lose 8 we end up at 59 seats majority.

Unless everyone becomes a masyginist or pedophile next year.

We’ll see

PS. In the meantime, they aren’t seeing what the other hand is doing and we are stacking up wins like cord wood.

Judiciary being the biggest thus far

I hope it means build every inch of the wall or be defeated. Stop increasing middle class taxes and redistributing wealth like the dems .Or.Else.
They have voted like dems all year. A tax increase on the working middle class and more obamacare money. Debt increases with Chuck n Nancy. How many Syrian rapefugees?
We are getting nowhere with the gop.
We did get a flurry of executive orders, obama style government, to be erased at the first opportunity, but no tangible, permanent Constitutional governance.

No it didn’t, thanks to the smears on Moore.

Brooks finished 3rd. If a perv hadn’t run (or we otherwise knew about his predilection for 14 year olds in time), Brooks would have beaten Strange in a two way primary.

On the bright side, tax reform probably doesn’t need that seat, and there aren’t any other big legislative items remaining in this Congress. Democrats still have a lot more vulnerable Senators on the ballot next year and won’t have this pariah to help them Akin their way back into more seats than they deserve to keep. If Jones is under any delusions of keeping this seat past 2020, he will feel compelled to join the Republicans on some things, but we’ll have to see. He could realize this is a temporary job and go full Pocahontas. We also get a shot at Senator Smalley’s seat next year.

It’s not a one-off if half of the Republican candidates are Democrats in disguise or will sell out within weeks of getting elected.

This is a huge loss and we need to create our own full-stack organization, not just rely on social media (which was censored in Alabama). What the RNC / campaign staff does which requires money wasn’t done in Alabama because Moore had no cash.

Moore was untouchable morally. That’s why they hated him.

Maybe this will be a good learning experience for the White House: don’t be putting Senators in your administration unless you have the backup plan well thought out. (Especially not Sessions - double whammy!)

Unfortunately, it also gives Collins, McCain, Murkowski and Rand Paul much more leverage.

If they can get the tax plan through - with SALT remaining deductible, they can right the ship. They leave the SALT as written as not deductible, and its over. Too many highly paid donors are getting crushed with the tax law as written.

I hate Podhoretz, but Moore was defective.

Any candidate would have been "defective" if they'd been politically attacked, lied about and savaged the way Moore was right on the eve of the election.

It is very, very crystal clear that John Podhoretz hates Christians. That’s what this article is about. Nothing Moore, nothing less.
