Was President Trump smart enough to realize that if he sat quietly while the investigators loaded their team with enough partisan hacks that eventually the investigation would be undeniably tainted?
Is he that damn good?!?

"Is he that damn good?!?"

He is blessed with enemies who repeatedly misunderestimate him.

You ask if Trump is good and my answer would be it appears he’s read some Sun Tzu.

I think that’s exactly what you’re seeing here. It’s almost like Donald Trump rolled a bunch of hand grenades into the special counsel’s office, and Mueller’s flunkies ran around pulling all the pins out.

Yes and yes!

The investigators seem intent on digging their own graves through conflicts of interest, partisan politicking, leaking, improper amorous liaisons, indiscreet communications, and stonewalling the release of congressionally requested information.

All preceding as planned! Politico reports that Mueller got a waiver for conflict of interest. To me that's big news if true!
