This is a crystalline example of the Deep State and the danger it poses to the Republic. These incestuous webs of marriage and influence among the swamp creatures, both in and outside of government.
A responsible press would be hacking away at this in expose’ after expose’ but they won’t. The press are as much a part of the ecosystem as anyone. The Deep State conspire, plot and leak. They provide the nectar that the news media live on. Much like ants milk aphids, they can do nothing to the rotten treasonous conspirators because that is where their product comes from. Not one news organization has the resources anymore to go and ferret out a story. The stories are fed to them, pre-packaged by the conspirators, the toadies, the clinging dingleberries in the government agencies and campaigns. Without them the media would collapse.
They will never root out the corruption.
