President Trump has been willing to accept almost anything to close the deal on his giant tax cut bill before Christmas, including staying mum about a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to pocket the more generous child tax credit included in the package.
Illegal immigrants have been collecting the payoff from the “refundable” tax credit for years because of an IRS interpretation of how the rule was drafted. The Republican-controlled Congress this fall had a chance to correct that in the tax code overhaul that in the Senate version doubled the child tax credit to $2,000 and expanded eligibility.

I thought one difference between old and new was that if you didn’t pay anything, you didn’t get this credit.
This while millions of us CITIZENS will see a tax increase!!!!
And, so many here on FR support that tax increase.
Nixon signed the original tax law for EIC...,it will NEVER go away. The IRS Code is rife with distribution schemes AND "Special Provisions" for those whose lobbiests bought votes! It will never change in our lifetimes!
Thank you. With all the Puerto Ricans mass migrating to Florida, we will be a blue state in about three weeks. We don’t need to worry about the tax credit.

Congressional Republicans would have stopped Congressional Democrats and Obama from doing this.
But now that they have power they have no compunction doing it themselves.

Reagan had to give in all the time to get bills passed. But he got enough of what he wanted and he was happy.
It is not possible to be pure.
There is tons of good in the bill and I will take the good if there are some things I don't want.
But people like you are never happy about anything. If Trump was a dictator, then I would agree with you, but he is not. Everyone has to get something to get a bill passed. That is how it works. It is not possible to be pure.

However, it is possible to deny the EITC to illegals while at the same time increasing taxes on millions of citizens.
Puerto Ricans are not illegal immigrants. They are American Citizens. That being said, yes, if they vote they usually vote Dem.
Also realize that many homes in South Florida were destroyed during Irma. Where will they eventually wind up?
He needs this for his State of the Union Address.
