President Trump has been willing to accept almost anything to close the deal on his giant tax cut bill before Christmas, including staying mum about a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to pocket the more generous child tax credit included in the package.
Illegal immigrants have been collecting the payoff from the refundable tax credit for years because of an IRS interpretation of how the rule was drafted. The Republican-controlled Congress this fall had a chance to correct that in the tax code overhaul that in the Senate version doubled the child tax credit to $2,000 and expanded eligibility.

I thought Trump hired Jared and Ivanka?
The bill still has to go to conference. Call, email, tweet your Congressman now.
Pprobably most dont even know its in there. Be nice to know the culprit who inserted it.
Trump cant change it unless he refuses to sign the bill. If that happens, all Republican careers will be endangered.

Thanks
The president is doing his best to keep his campaign promises.
But he has to rely on the same old dirtbag scammers in the senate and house to pass the legislation.
They look at every bill as an opportunity to scam the taxpayer out of something and funnel government money, contracts and special treatment to their financial supporters and others in their favor.
....because of an IRS interpretation of how the rule was drafted.
Uh huh. An interpretation.
So easy to fix even a caveman could do it.
In politics what one hand giveth, the other frequently taketh away. I’m far less interested in shibboleths than substance. A goodbye benefit to departing unauthorized visitors doesn’t give me a headache.
The entire government as fairy godmother gives the lord of this world a platform to rival the church.
The church, like the cowardly lion, needs to find its heart again.
This is ALL Paulie Ryan’s goodbye kiss to his BFF Gutierrez.
The child tax credit was an unnecessary break to wealthy two-income families. Now it includes the invader housekeepers and day care workers they hire? Is there anything the ‘pubs won’t agree to so they can get their full vacation?
If Republican voters would simply push their members of Congress to pass a bill, the bill wouldn’t be so polluted before reaching the President’s desk. But narrow special interests mess it up every time.
Republicans aren't going to take away the refundable child tax credit. They're not that suicidal.
There was talk of increasing it to $1600 or even $2000 and making any portion above the original $1000 non-refundable. That first $1000 would have always remained refundable. Now there's talk of making the whole $2000 refundable.
It is to sigh, yet both parties indubitably winked & nodded.
Government choked the legals and citizens out of viability. The true answer is to end the choking.
Actually, it's more of a break to middle-income families like mine where only one parent (myself) works and my wife stays home and raises our kids.
The way I read it, this is less of a problem with the child tax credit and more of a problem with birthright citizenship. Until we get rid of birthright citizenship, the kids born here to illegals are American citizens and receive a SSN at birth, thus qualifying their parents for a CTC.
At least they finally wised up and are requiring a SSN to qualify. This wasn't required before and allowed parents to claim dozens of imaginary kids as well as "Dreamers" for tax credits resulting in billions of dollars of fraudulent payouts.
It’s a band-aid to a system that keeps on trying to be fairy godmother to everything under the sun.
God groans. Both at the usurpation and at the coldness of heart that opened a door to it.
“Be nice to know the culprit who inserted it.”
The EITC was payable to illegals before this bill. At approximately $1,000 per child.
The House bill increases that to $1,600 and the Senate bill, at Rubio’s insistence to $2,000 per child.
Ah, someone who speaks the truth. If conservatives only knew to what degree they were hated by the IRS, I wonder what would happen. The IRS KNOWS they have been taking billions in tax dollars for years and GIVING it to foreigners who come here with lots of children. They are literally buying votes and they hate anyone who opposes them.
“At least they finally wised up and are requiring a SSN to qualify.”

And what about those people who use someone elses SSN?
The government seems to be unable to catch them.
.
The problem is Americans are consistently in favor of policies that take away the free stuff someone else gets from the government while leaving untouched the free stuff they get from the government.
