ATLANTA. Snow blanketed a vast swath of the Deep South on Friday, triggering a flurry of winter weather warnings that closed businesses and schools, canceled hundreds of flights and caused traffic gridlock. It also unleashed a flurry of snowman construction and sledding in places more accustomed to sunshine than snow.
The storm dropped a rare coating of snow as far south as Brownsville, Texas - near the border of Mexico - up through southern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the southern Appalachians.
"This is an unusual event - to see snow falling this early in the season all the way from Texas and the Gulf Coast region to Georgia," said Laura Pagano, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Atlanta/Peachtree City office. "It has happened before, but not often."
More than 200,000 customers across the region lost power as snow downed branches and power lines.

We have "snowbirds" here that migrate annually to Florida. I'm not real crazy about that state.
Looked like about an inch here in Mobile....already started melting around 0700 and there’s absolutely nothing on the streets.
Nothing in North Mississippi south of Memphis but cold air
There was 2 inches in my yard NW of downtown Houston. Gone by noon except on the north side of the roof. It’s still there this morning.
Ah yes, Snow in Texas, Alabama, the Carolinas in November just another factoid in the GLOBAL WARMING is real fight?????
Actually they were ‘genius’ (IN A MAD SCIENTIST WAY) to declare it Climate Change so whenever something is ‘out of the norm’ WE can’t point at them and laugh.....
BEST EXAMPLE is the revelers that went to Antarctica to observe and cheer on the melting ice and rising tide that became STUCK IN THE ICE and we had to send ICE BREAKERS to rescue them.
But the ‘THAT IS MY STORY AND I AM STICKING TO IT” crowd hasn’t enough sense to even contemplate they may be wrong or at least partially mistaken.
That’s how it looks near Atlanta. Kids are thrilled.

Ok, early December......I was close....
This is unusual for the Deep South!
...
There was snow at the Trump rally in Pensacola last night.
Snow in Florida in early December for crying out loud.
We had a light dusting of snow here in south central Louisiana yesterday morning, and flurries continued into the afternoon.
The most beautiful sight ———freshly fallen snow.
My grandparents lived in South Alabama, which can go 5-6 years at a time without measurable snow. As a result, this easily falls in the “unusual” category. Usually, when it does snow in the deep South it is during the heart of Winter (i.e. January) and not early December.
If this had happened up here in Ohio, then I would agree that this is perfectly normal for this time of year. Of course, either way the weather cultists will blame it on BS man-caused Climate Change.
I got about 3 inches just north of Wetumpka, al in the lovely community of Wallsboro. Luckily I took my last available vacation day yesterday (good timing, eh?). Daughter in Emerald Mountain didn’t get much either. Only alasbabylon will understand that one...lol. Ex boss texted me wanting to know what he can do in Tallassee today while his daughter takes ACT there. I told him there is nothing to do there...lol. My granddaughter just scored 30 on ACT...yes, bragging Mammaw here!
One thing I left out is that the area around Columbus, MS received 6 inches of snow, which is their largest single day snowstorm ever.
We have about 2 inches in our suburb north of Atlanta. We got 3-4 inches but some melted off then we got more snow in the night.
Trans-gender?
Ya, but snowbirds are called that because they’re escaping the snow... So they come down during your cold months. That’s when the weather is actually nice down here. So they think, “Florida is great! I play golf all winter and can walk around outside!”
They truly haven’t enjoyed a Dixie summer. Try golfing in 100 degrees heat, 99% humidity, and no breeze.
I’ll be inside golfing on the Wii! Thank you Dr. Carrier!
Why would you want to do that? That's what they make cars and airplanes for. I'm pretty sure the Summertime golfing anywhere along the Canadian border is pretty good.
The boss can come over to my place. I was thinking about going out to the deer stand and see if I could get one... Late in the day but this weather brings out the rut and they all get a little crazy.
He needs to be quiet and bring his own rifle, but there’s been plenty of deer at the corn feeder. I think the snow makes them easier to see!
I get tickled when you say “south Alabama”. I live in central Alabama...belt buckle of the Bible Belt...lol
Oh, yes...as any good southern gal knows...snow and this time of year makes for good deer hunting! Wishing you good fortune if you go out today!
