Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., announced Friday that he is resigning from Congress effective immediately instead of waiting until the end of January.
Franks said Thursday he would leave next month after it emerged that he discussed surrogate parenthood with two female staffers some reports said he asked them directly to be a surrogate mother. But in a Friday a statement, Franks said his wife was admitted to a hospital Thursday night due to a recurring health issue, and that Friday would be his last day as a sitting member of Congress.
"Last night, my wife was admitted to the hospital in Washington, D.C. due to an ongoing ailment," Franks said. "After discussing options with my family, we came to the conclusion that the best thing for our family now would be for me to tender my previous resignation effective today, December 8th, 2017."
Franks said he discussed surrogacy with his staff because he and his wife have suffered from infertility, and were looking to have a third child.
"Due to my familiarity and experience with the process of surrogacy, I clearly became insensitive as to how the discussion of such an intensely personal topic might affect others," Franks said. "I have recently learned that the Ethics Committee is reviewing an inquiry regarding my discussion of surrogacy with two previous female subordinates, making each feel uncomfortable. I deeply regret that my discussion of this option and process in the workplace caused distress."
"But in the midst of this current cultural and media climate, I am deeply convinced I would be unable to complete a fair House Ethics investigation before distorted and sensationalized versions of this story would put me, my family, my staff, and my noble colleagues in the House of Representatives through hyperbolized public excoriation," Franks said, saying then that he would remain in Congress for most of the next two months. "It is with the greatest sadness, that for the sake of the causes I deeply love, I must now step back from the battle I have spent over three decades fighting."
Franks had served in Congress since 2003 and was a member of the House Freedom Caucus.
Why thank you.
Hes a politician aka scum bag
Get out more and ask a few woman how many guys think they are being cute by asking them to have their baby.
Too many.
...offered $5 million to carry his child

I call BS on this! The going commercial Rate with IVF facilities is in the 5 figure range and there is usually a split between the egg donor and the surrogate carrier.
Trent Franks is my congressman. I went to a local Republican meeting last night and no one there had any more information on the issue other thanks Franks’ statement last night. People with party positions knew his resignation was coming a few days ago but were sworn to silence. His statement last night said he was resigning Jan 31 but he changed that and resigned today. I have a feeling there must be a lot more to this and he hopes by resigning today instead of the end of January to bury the rest of the story.
Know one but the accuser knows exactly what this guy said and until I know the exact verbiage I say he’s a slime ball for tossing sexual innuendos around the work place under the guise of a serious topic. A topic that doesn’t get casually bantered about the work place.
The liberals in the media/Hollywood and politics have people that they do not like such as Conyers, Harvey Wienstein, Al Franken etc. They can be choosy about who they decide to throw to the sharks since there are so many creeps in politics, the media and Hollywood to pick from. Weinstein, for one seems to be a person who was thoroughly feared and detested for his bullying. It is not surprising that many people had their knives sharpened for him for many years. So this was like Caesar and the Senate on the Ides of March. Also, it is like any kind of court intrigue situation where you have many highly competitive people eyeing the same jobs, all eager to take out the top person so that they could get their job.
The left is taking advantage of the sex harassment tornado to come in for the kill against the big target—Trump.
Correct and no one here knows which version is the truth.
Because of that and the fact he is a politician I say hes guilty.
I don’t like Ru Paul, but really, ya gotta quit blaming everything on him.
Word here in AZ from ppl I talked to in the party say Franks’ er, “activities” were well known and extend far beyond “surrogacy.” Most of all, it’s supremely hypocritical from this former pastor. I think he is using the instance of his wife’s illness to make the inevitable come quicker.
And, BTW, I ran the numbers today: about 145 Congresscritters paid out from the fund since 2007. Given the GOP majority, you can figure at least 70 of those are Rs, and a good number of the total are females. And that’s just the house. Senate much likely worse due to longer tenure there.
Roy Moore doesn’t have anything to worry about.
1/3 of the House will depart because of this before it’s done.
Really? You know this how? You have as much credibility as Gloria Allred!
Surrogacy does not mean having sex. It involves artificial semination.
“Is asking someone to be a surrogate automatically deemed sexual harassment?”
I would think most women would think it an honor to be asked...as long as a chicken baster was used to inseminate.
Maybe so but it really doesn’t make a difference if it was just poor judgement. We’ve come to a point where any accusation of any kind, true or not, permanently makes the accused a pariah.
Did she get 5 million for her trouble?
Believe it or not.
I didn’t make it up.

NS Sherlock.
He’s a congressman! If there a border or separation between “creepy, lying, thieving, murderous criminal” and “politician”, you’ll have to point it out.
Wow...Politico and the AP ...with their standard unnamed sources. Some company you keep. And you make their propaganda even worse do the RATS work for them. Anyhow, Franks did good by making the resignation effective today forcing Arizona Governor Ducey to announce by Monday the date for a special election.
You’re the one who implied he was scum for seeking help on a legitimate medical issue.
you need to read link at #88
There are other sources. Political was the first up when I searched
after you posted to me.
You can google for yourself.
