N. Korea slams U.S. over growing talk of 'possible' naval blockade....

SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Yonhap) -- North Korea lashed out at the United States on Friday over the possible use of a naval blockade in the wake of its recent missile provocation, warning it would be tantamount to "war acts."

The condemnation came after U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently mentioned the "right to interdict maritime traffic transporting goods" to and from the North after its Nov. 29 test of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking the anywhere on the U.S. mainland.

"The U.S. moves for sea blockade can never be tolerated as they constitute a wanton violation of the sovereignty and dignity of an independent state," the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

"The U.S. is trying to openly take the measure of sea blockade against the DPRK and strangle its economy in peace time. This is part of its scheme to escalate political and economic blockade against the DPRK which has lasted for decades," it added.

“and strangle its economy in peace time.”

Nope. Armistice means we are still at war.

......”it is legal to blockade in time of war, which we are with North Korea”.....

That is a distinction that needs to be remembered, especially when FatBoy has a kissy fit over any moves we even mention let alone do. I think he even forgets it!

But we ARE at war with n.korea if one gets technical about it.

The 1950-53 Korean War ended in an ‘armistice’, with neither side able to claim outright victory..... Decades on, the truce is still all that technically prevents North Korea and the US - along with its ally South Korea - resuming the war, as ‘no peace treaty has ever been signed’.....

You’re going to freeze if you go....no roof on the main stadium for the opening....they chose not to put one on since that stadium is temporary and to save money.

I’d sure be concerned with N.Korean antics....known to kidnap people any who go there need to be extra cautious..

A blockade obviously has Fatboys pants in a knot......again......but I’m not sure the UN would stand behind the US on this....especially if this needs to be done sooner rather than later.

While I have also used the “We are still technically at war with NK” comment, I think legally, one could also argue that 60+ years of no true military combat/engagement could be redefined at a state of detente, not war.

Certainly the doves in the UN and in Congress would argue that.

It’s a big grey area, IMO.

Well Imo Fat Boy would love nothing better than to see China/Russia go up against the US.....that’s what he ‘expects’ to see and why Trump has been working deals and negotiations with them both.

I’m concerned that these missile launches may very well be a play by China and Russia to keep the US distracted from the otherwise power moves they are successfully carrying out economincaly and otherwise that challenges the US standing power on the world stage.

Russia and China both want intergration of the Eur-asian Union into the fabric of their coutnries and cultures ‘economic engines’....thus the ‘Road and Belt Initative’ (Silk Road) does just that.....but Taiwan is seen as “occupied” by the US since 1949....and to China a threat to the stability and defense of their coastal area. They are not happy we’re there....and in Japan.

Trump time and again stated the US was loosing it’s economic power to China.....he is right....couple this with China’s relationship to Russia is like the Unites States to Europe...they are playing a technology and trade war. Often in doing business with the Chinese ‘they want our technology as trade’ and part of doing business for companies who want to be there.

I don’t think it makes much difference. A naval blockade is an act of war.

I don’t disagree with it. I just like calling a spade a spade.

Yes it is.... but as we see Kim Un certainly isn’t considering this as the regime has shown since he arrived there. Threatening another country, and blasting missiles, even if it’s been done for decades as ‘acceptable’, still would indicate a war footing and then some. The fact we haven’t ‘engaged’ those threats evidences he’s the moving party at creating a war footing.

The Problem with North Korea will be over by the time the Olympic Games start. And I predict Russia will take part too. I believe Rocketman Kim will be dead soon—and a new ruler in place who will meet with Trump in Russia and work out a deal. A peace will end the Korean War at last and our problems will be over in this theater.

.....”I suppose that a warning shot across the bow would be the traditional response. But then what if the Russian or Chinese captain is bold, or has specific instructions? Than what?”......

Now that “then what” does sound quite familiar doesn’t it? ..the Cuban missile Crisis no doubt faced exactly that.....but this situation is different obviously so.

Both China and Russia have been emboldened since obama’s Presidency. They have been moving pretty much at will throughout his time...gaining economically and in trade agreements of pipelines etc...and also the new silk road partnership.....which hard-wires countries one to the other.........which is another war of a different color but war non the less.

So neither China nor Russia want to see another military war....so the question is to them how much is Fatboy on his throne worth it. That we shall see as they’re experts at stalling.

Remember the bulk freighter named ‘Jie Shun’ that was flying Cambodian colors but had sailed from North Korea with a North Korean crew and an unknown cargo covered by heavy tarps?....after taking over the freighter they found, under bins of iron ore, a cache of 30,000+ rocket-propelled grenades. It was the largest seizure of ammunition in the history of sanctions against N.korea.

N.Korea has had years to learn how to get around sanctions. And that includes ‘shipping armament’....as you say a blockade would stop this and further strangle Fatboys cash flow for his Nuclear ambitions....which he’s very close now in obtaining.

....”there’s a direct rail link”.....

Yes and that was reinforced this past year.....Russia doesn't agree with the sanctions against N.Korea....because they see with China's easing off assisting N.Korea a gap they intend to fill and are.....plus they've opened the Russian internet to N.Korea and that's creating havoc in the technology war.....many of the hackers and thefts have come from N.Korea hackers though the demorats like to say it's Russia....which indirectly has a part in it by supplying N.Korea with access to their internet.

At any rate the rail is just the beginning stages for Russia's long term deals with n.Korea which has and will improve their infrastructure for Russia's long range abmitions in N.Korea.

Good.

There is now the very real potential of MANY Americans dying and a city completely destroyed by a 2 cent POS dictator.

How did it come to this?

End it NOW!!

Trump is not the president of SK. He’s the POTUS.

I know that sounds cold. It is what it is.

I'm pretty sure they won't as I hinted at... but I'd like to see those who oppose us squirm a little!

The optics of a presidential appearance wouldn't hurt either.

A little "saber rattling" might be beneficial. The Navy knows a few things about sabers!

"A naval blockade is an act of war. It’s always been considered that throughout history."

That is way it will be called a Quarantine.
