The judge who took a guilty plea from President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn last week has recused himself ahead of a sentencing hearing.
A court spokeswoman confirmed to Politico and other outlets that the case was reassigned after Judge Rudolph Contreras, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, recused himself.
Judge Emmet Sullivan, an appointee of former President Bill Clinton, was randomly selected to take his place in the case.
The switch comes after Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russians in the month before Trump took office.
Flynn's guilty plea is the most dramatic development yet in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Trump campaign associates' ties to Russia.
Flynn has agreed to cooperate in the investigation led by Mueller, who has also secured indictments against three other former Trump campaign associates, including former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
There are now public reports that Mueller and company hid exculpatory evidence from Flynn prior to the plea.
This obligates the Judge to report Mueller and company for possible bar violation or even illegal conduct.
So Judge is getting the heck out now.
This Judge and many other Deep Staters are starting to jump ship. Hopefully they will all bail and leave Hillary & Obama on their own.
I can’t see what reason he’d have to recuse from the sentencing that wouldn’t also require he recuse from the trial.
I wonder if this is not a good time for Gen. Flynn to withdraw his guilty plea? Failure to provide discovery when Strzok was removed last summer. Numerous people on Mueller’s team compromised. List goes on and on...
Uh-huh...
The Federal Bureau of Incrimination.
Making up the crimes Americans didn’t do.
Is he a fisa court judge?
Methinks there is enough credible information on the table now to request a judge to dismiss all charges against Flynn and the others.
Well, how about that? What a silly coincidence!
No trial. Flynn copped a plea.
He may be after this.
Gateway Pundit had a story recently that because the prosecution withheld evidence the plea could possibly be set aside and the case dismissed.
Prosecutors that hid the evidence could also be disbarred.
Judge knowing all that has a duty to notify the bar association.
Also, ANY citizen can do a bar complaint if they even read in the newspaper about a lawyer committing an illegality. Dont have to be a party to the suit or even live in that state.
Any FReepers with actual professional experience with this kind of thing? Under what circumstances would this happen?
Oh yeah.
Still, seems strange.
If the plea was done without full disclosure to the defense, he could withdraw the plea.
A judge could ask toss out the entire case.
A startling development. Doesn’t the judge have to explain in a written statement why he is recusing himself?
Recused himself without a motion and after the fact of hearing the plea?
Never happens.
Bet he realized how flawed this guilty plea was and doesn’t want to throw it out or be anywhere near it. Whoever takes this over should throw out the guilty plea.
