Gerard Araud tweeted Thursday afternoon that In this Pearl Harbor day, we should remember that the US refused to side with France and the UK to confront the fascist powers in the 30s.
Mr. Araud deleted the tweet within a few minutes, though not before it had been screen-captured.

Lots of things I never knew about my grandfather. Fortunately I have an aunt who has been gathering family history. I only need to make the time to visit her across the state to see what she has found........
The next time the Germans invade France they’ll be shouting allahakbar instead of heil hitler.
My grandfather drove an ambulance in France during WWI as well. He had polio so he was ineligible for military service. He went to France on his own and drove an ambulance.
I wish that I knew more about my family history. You may be surprised at what you find. I know that my husband was and it seems worth the effort.
Why give this guy the time of Day?
They did introduce us to Bridget Bardot.
We were against war in Europe until Hitler invaded Rusxia. FOR was riddled with communists. Eleanor would host them.
Yep, this “Dorque” opened the door on a shameful history that he would wish he’d kept closed — if he knew enough history.
Who opened fire on the Americans landing in Morocco to fight the Nazis?
The French.
And who refused to keep their navy from falling into the hands of the Nazis?
The French.
They spurned all of the options the British offered them:
(1) to put to sea and join forces with the Royal Navy;
(2) to sail with reduced crews to British ports, where the vessels would be impounded and their complements repatriated;
(3) to sail with reduced crews to the base at Dakar, where the ships would be immobilized; or
(4) to scuttle their ships within six hours. The Admiralty had instructed Somerville that should Gensoul refuse all of the offers, the French ships were to be put out of action in their present berths, using all means at your disposal.
The main French naval units were scattered among various Mediterranean ports, while others were in British harbors and the French West Indies. Anchored at the Mers-el-Kebir base in Algeria were the modern 26,500-ton battleships Dunkerque and Strasbourg; two aging battleships, the 22,189-ton Bretagne and Provence; the 10,000-ton seaplane carrier Commandante Teste; and six large destroyers.
In the nearby port of Oran were seven destroyers and four submarines. The new, uncompleted, 38,000-ton battleships Jean Bart and Richelieu were tied up respectively at Casablanca in French Morocco and Dakar in French West Africa, while the aging 22,189-ton battleship Lorraine and four cruisers lay under the guns of the British Mediterranean Fleet in Alexandria harbor.
Good thing Churchill and the U.S. had the resolve to squash the French government’s persistent resistance to war against Germany. Vive la resistance!
French...Dutch... Should have let Des Deutschen Vaterland do their thing.
They can all kiss my White ass.
You mean the Imaginary Line? LOL! It never once occurred to them that the Germans could simply go around it.
Is it not enough that American warriors in WW2 sacrificed their lives
for French Surrender Monkeys?
Trump should give the French a couple of hours to announce he’s been sacked, and if they don’t meet the deadline, the US should expel the ambassador. That should bring about a quick surrender by the French.
Kinda like France is backing us and Israel now vs islamofascism?
European problems have cost the lives of too many Americans.
It was your mess and none of our damned business. And because you didn’t fix the problem when you could Americans died.
Next time and I almost hope there is a next time, go pound sand.
Another vote against FDR.
It’s ironic that the French won the early battles against the NAZI’s but their military leadership kept pulling them back.
In 1966, DeGaulle asked that all American soldiers be removed from France. Does that include the dead Americans in military cemeteries as well? U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk reportedly asked.
Cheese-eating surrender monkeys, redux.
They also had better fighter planes.
But due to politics their pilots had very little training because the bickering politicians would not fund training. So, they were easy pickings for the well-trained German air force.
On paper the Germans should not have won.
