When did actors become the ultimate authority on the constitution?

CNN’s David Axelrod (who, lest we forget, was Obama’s political guru) interviewed actor Tom Hanks on The Axe Files on December 2, and pushed Hanks to pontificate on Donald Trump, the constitution, and fake news. When Axelrod asked Hanks whether he was “concerned” by the president “target[ing] news organizations,” Hanks responded, “As an American, it concerns me because it’s monkeying around with our Constitution.”

Again, this is David Axelrod, who worked for Barack Obama. He now has a show on CNN. He’s asking wonderfully leading questions about Donald Trump’s criticism of … CNN. Is just a little self-awareness too much to ask?

Anyway, according to Judge Hanks, media criticism is meddling with the constitution. Where is that in the amendments?

In the hour long interview, Hanks went on to talk about the fake news phenomenon: “It’s relatively obvious, I think, as what is trying to go forward. When you tear down these institutions to a level and say you can’t believe anything that is in any of them, that raises the stock of those agenda-filled other institutions and what not so that if you can’t believe them, well that means you get to believe some of the other stuff that is in these and so what is happening is that dilution, the dilution of the great … they’re throwing dirt and oil into a bucket of water. So it all becomes undrinkable after a while,” he told Axelrod, the former senior Obama official who now has a show at … CNN.

According to FEC Info, an Internet Web site (www.tray.com) that tracks federal political contributions, 176 individual donors actually contributed $10,000 or more to the lewinsky-era Clinton Legal Expense Trust fund through Dec 1999. Another 21 donors gave $10,000 in the first six months of 2000.

Thanks to Hollywood's generosity, a total of more than $2.2 million was raised in six months, which was notably more than was collected in funding during the previous four years of his presidency—combined. Hollywood producers and stars made up the bulk of the most generous givers. They included:

When Bill Clinton was at the height of the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal, Hollywood was by his side, offering donations for his legal fees, and one significant donor was a man who is now going through his own sex scandal—Harvey Weinstein.

Billionaire Harvey Weinstein raised $1,422,683 for federal candidates and political entities between 1990-2016. That’s small potatoes for his 27 years of rank Democratism, sucking up to feminism and upholding so-called abortion rights as he rampaged and assaulted young women. Adds up to about $5300 a year. Something tells me there are a lot of cash payments off-the-record being paid. (hat tip outpostinmass2) Crunching the numbers as outpost did does give us a sharper look at the political money game as played by the conniving Clintons.

Harvey also gave a bundle to the nefarious tax-exempt Clinton Foundation and perhaps to offshoots of the Clintons tax-free entities.

Did Harvey's donations to the C/F go to "do-good projects"? Or did they make a circuitous route? Maybe landing back into the Clintons eternal political scams?

Imagine that democrats want to create a VP Pence scandal: they start a whisper campaign that Pence is always chasing women. What happens? It flops. There is zero evidence, and it's not plausible given what we all see of VP Pence.

Now imagine that real Americans want to damage the credibility of the mainstream media: they start a whisper campaign that CNN/NYT/WaPo are all #FakeNews. What happens? Four days after the Inauguration, Time publishes that President Trump removed the MLK bust from the Oval Office, later retracting the story. ABC publishes a major story that Flynn contacted Russia during the campaign, later retracted. CNN publishes a story about Trump ally Scaramucci contacting Russia, later retracted . . . I could list hundreds of similar cases where the media jumped all over a claim with little or no evidence in the hope that it would hurt Candidate Trump or now President Trump . . .

What is hurting press credibility is that #FakeNews is real, and it is a significant fraction of our mainstream press. Their lack of integrity and Trump commenting on that bias have no effect on the Constitution. The liars at Time/Newsweek/MSNBC/ABC are still free to write any story they want to write. The difference is that viewers critically evaluate media accuracy. That is as it should be for a free press in a free country.
