A week after NBC fired Matt Lauer, the ousted anchor is still reeling.
“He is weak and broken and ashamed by his own admission,” one of Lauer’s former Today show colleagues tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.
“He is my friend,” the colleague adds. “He is human, and he is flawed. But is he going to use his power to be a predator on women? Until I see solid evidence of that, I just can’t believe it. We don’t know the details.”
Lauer, 59, was terminated after the network received a “detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior,” with reason to believe “this may not have been an isolated incident.” A source later told PEOPLE that Lauer was let go due to sexual misconduct with that woman throughout 2014, including at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. (Another source with knowledge of the situation said Lauer had viewed this relationship as “consensual” and was “dumbfounded” by the accusation.)

#38 At the family business at what we called the north plant, we had a supervisor who one day did not show up to work. A week went by and the mechanic went to the guys home and took back the company car. In his office we found in his desk in a double drawer many many xxx magazines. The office was glass in closed on 3 sides with solid walls half way up. How he looked at those magazines without the others seeing I cannot guess.
He should be in jail.

Not so sure that there is a friend. This reminds me of one of those stories that starts out “I have this friend who has a problem see and he doesn’t know what to do about it . . .” My money is on a lawyer, agent or publicist, with a vested interest in rehabilitating Matt’s image, if not Lauer, himself.

The surprise for me is that he actually molested women. I thought it was a job requirement that liberal news anchors had to be gay.
Ashamed he admitted it? What a loser.
He is toast. Nobody will hire him as an employee. If he got caught banging hookers he would have been rehabilitated.
