U.S. Rep. Don Young has become the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives with the resignation Tuesday of Rep. John Conyers of Michigan amid harassment claims. Young was first elected in an Alaska special election in 1973 the year Secretariat won horse racing's Triple Crown and the movie "The Exorcist" was released.

How ironic that the oldest rep. is called Young.
Oh my, and when the NHL featured a young helmeted Guy Lafleur and other stars like Alex Delvecchio, Bobby Orr, Dean Prentice, Gump Worsley, Tim Horton, and maskless Andy Brown (with Pittsburgh).
Longest-serving, not the oldest. The oldest with Conyers’ departure is Louise Slaughter of NY (who is 88, born in 1929).
Don Young is quite a character, I remember during the Clinton years he made a great speech warning Janet Reno about trying to take our firearms. During the speech he was banging the podium with an oosik, which is the baculum (penis bone) from a bull Walrus and makes a dandy nightstick.
Term limits. Nobody should be able to live off the people a lifetime. Once they know all the intricacies, the in’s, and the out’s of the government employment they exist within, even the good guys begin to play the government games. Not good.
