Take 16 "college" teams and turn them professional. They can keep the school name. (Unless the team sells advertising rights, so as an example the U of Minnesota team becomes the "My Pillow Golden Gophers.")

Stop pretending the football players are college students, and no requirement to go to college classes.

Each team plays the other 15 teams, alternating home field advantage.

Split the 16 team league into divisions, and make up some complicated, drawn-out playoff system.

Big hoopla final, and since everybody played each other at least once, no more excuses about "woulda, coulda, shoulda but the schedule did not allow it to happen."

And the rest of the current colleges could remain in the NCAA, pretty much under current rules, except that the last real college game would be no later than the Saturday after Thanksgiving. And the coaches at "real" colleges could not be paid more than the highest-paid Dean at the college.

Then we can go back to the days when Chip Hilton and Fireball Finley were the local stars. (With a tip of the hat to Clair Bee.)

Sounds like a recipe to destroy college football. The NFL should pick up much of the tab since college football acts as the farm system that feeds players into the professional ranks. You are making the case for a professional football farm system grafted on to colleges. It won't work and will kill the sport at the college level.

Football is under fire from the Left. They are killing it at the lower levels and this will have an effect on the college and professional level. Lower participation in Pop Warner and high school football will reduce the pool of players.

You can TRY to squeeze that toothpaste back into the tube but it will still leak on out again.

Believe me, I worked at Auburn University for 20 years.

It’s mostly the fault of the alumni and their donations and big money.

Older alumni want to relive their glory days when life was simple and their school and its team was all that mattered.

Younger alumni want their kids to go to “their” school and experience those happy winning days. I can tell you that more than half of the rivalry among Alabamians between the Tide and the Tigers is all about where Mom and Dad went to school. My town is 30 miles from Auburn and decidedly pro-Auburn. It’s been a little weak these past few years but really came out this week! AU flags everywhere, LOL!

As an Alabamian that has to visit liberal areas of the country all the time, I’m just happy to see the Crystal Trophy in my state. Gives me something to brag on when the jokes about marrying my sister, having one tooth, driving a pickup and living in a single-wide while pumping a bible comes up.

Anyway, the alumni are the ones making certain their school has a winning coach and will beg, borrow, cajole, force, power-thru or bribe the school into all of it’s football traditions.

Require it, demand a publicly posted eligibility-GPA, make them debate each other, and give lectures on science and technologies during halftime.

Stop pretending that hasn’t been the case for the past 100 years or so. Nothing new under the sun here.

ROFLMAO!

...except you just *know* that within nanoseconds, they'd end up being called the "Pillow Biters."
