President Donald Trump's personal lawyer John Dowd drafted the president's Saturday morning tweet that stated he fired former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for lying not only to Vice President Mike Pence but also to the FBI, Dowd told ABC News Saturday.
*snip*
But now Dowd, corroborated by a second source familiar with the matter, said the tweet was not drafted by the president himself but rather by the lawyer -- and done so in a "sloppy" manner.
The White House, which has insisted that tweets from the president should be taken as official statements, has declined to comment.

"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI," Trump tweeted at 9:14 a.m. on Saturday. "He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!"
Very odd to hear that Trump’s tweets may not be authored by him. Would like to hear this from Trump directly.
Most celebrity tweets are not authored by the celebrity themselves, but are written with their approval. Not much to it.
Yes, but Trump’s tweets?!
Do you really think that he tweets from 3am to midnight, and sometimes between midnight and 3am every night of the week?
Yes, I do. We saw this during the campaign and never once even the remotest hint that he did not write his own tweets. The removes, if you will, the mystic of Trump tweeting. I’m hoping we’ll find tomorrow that the lawyer spoke out of turn or was misunderstood.
WTH are they doing? I dont care what the truth is about who wrote the damn tweet, this is a bad move. I mean, can you smell the fear here? This kind of reaction implies that they ALSO think the tweet could an admission of guilt to something and are now trying to clean it up. You were winning the PR war guys, why are you putting chum in the water?
Did you miss the part where this if from ABC? I’m sure the real story is that one of Trump’s lawyers approved or gave the green light to Trump’s tweet about Flynn.
ABC is fake news after all.
“Do you really think that he tweets from 3am to midnight, and sometimes between midnight and 3am every night of the week?”
Yes
Someone here on FR posted a while back that Chief of Staff John Kelly posts many of Trump’s Twitter messages ... and they even thought they could see a pattern and figure out which ones were his.
I think he does too. He doesn’t drink, is a workaholic, and he answered two of my tweets to him over the course of the past few months. I would like to think they are from him. He is the only reason I started tweeting.
If he Tweets it, how will you know?...
They are his tweets in the sense that they are what he would say, if he said them.
Despite his wealth, President Trump is a man of the people. Twitter helped him get elected;he communicates directly with people.
It may be that now that he is the Commander in Chief and has fires to put out all over the world that he may have less time for social media.
He has two twitter handles: @potus and @therealDonaldTrump, I think. If someone else posted for him, I would hope it would be under the POTUS name.
In any case, I still support him.
I wonder why this guy came out with this slander now? I sense the President will have a new lawyer soon....
Progressives care who is writing President Trump’s tweets a lot. “You didn’t write that” appears quite often after he tweets, regardless of the time of day.
I don’t care if President Trump writes all his own tweets. I don’t care if he writes all of them or none of them.
What matters to me is President Trump keep using Twitter to go around the DNC propaganda media & talk directly to me, the voter.
It’s not slander, it’s his lawyer taking responsibility for the words, presumably to take POTUS off the hook for the “legal” claim being made in the MSM that the words would help to support an “obstruction of justice” allegation against POTUS.
Of course, it’s all leftard b.s. anyway, but as I read it the lawyer is simply saying “my bad” POTUS is not at fault for any legal problem (allegedly) with that tweet.
No other man I know uses exclamation points the way he does. Wish he’d stop THAT.
