Trump's admission about Michael Flynn prompts obstruction of justice chatter
Washington Examiner ^ | December 2, 2017 | Daniel Chaitin

“I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI,” Trump said. “He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!”

The first part of that tweet is significant, noted Benjamin Wittes, who is editor in chief of Lawfare, because Trump for the first time suggested that he knew about Flynn's "legal jeopardy" in February, when Flynn was let go from the Trump administration for lying about his contacts with the Russians.

Furthermore, one day after Flynn's ouster, Trump pressed then-FBI Director Comey to drop the investigation into Flynn, according to testimony from Comey.

This could be significant as Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election reportedly is also looking at possible obstruction of justice by Trump.

During an interview with NBC News, Trump also said he considered "this Russia thing" before firing Comey in May.

"There are a number of issues Mueller would have to resolve if there is to be any obstruction of justice case. One of them — and it’s not by any means the only one — is state of mind on Trump’s part," Wittes wrote on Twitter. ...

Oh how so? I heard this earlier today, and it’s the over active imaginations of the goofy morons in the media.

Progressives on twitter lost their minds when President Trump 1st posted that tweet.

They are so SURE they got him now. Again.

I’ve posted to all of them salivating the following:

#CommonCoreFailureOnDisplay #Learn2Read4Real #MAGA

The responses I’ve gotten have all been hilarious with the usual progressive name-calling.

President Trump threw out a new shiny thing for the progressives to chase. Again lol

I agree with you, any attempt to impeach POTUS, Trump would be sheer insanity. ABC tanked the stock market with “Fake News” yesterday...they should be sued for millions.

The point being is that Trump should keep his mouth shut, but he won’t. He hands evil schemers like Mueller all the ammo they can handle. His lawyers have to be losing their minds. But I saw a photo of this Ty Cobb (really?) and he looks like he was found in a cave, under a rock.

Nonetheless, I love the guy (DJT) and he had me at “Hello.”

.
Convoluted Fake News.

The chief executive cannot “obstruct justice.”

He has the power to choose what is prosecuted.

He has an obligation to do what is best for the Nation, not his prosecutor’s pride.

Flynn is someone we desperately need directing our security, and constitutionally speaking, lying to a bureaucrat cannot be a crime unless you are under oath.

How would Pres. Trump know Flynn lied to FBI ?——————

Exactly. Sounds like he made a mistake by lumping the two together. .

Trump was aware of Flynns actions

In fact, he fired Flynn for lying about it to the Vice President

Benjamin Wittes and “state of mind” are grasping at straws.

So many nothing burgers, so little time.

<< “Liberals will unleash a force so strong this world will be shaken to the core.” >>

One might hope. Maybe. We’ve seen historically that conservatives are a compliant bunch whenever push comes to shove, preferring the ballot, their keyboards and couches, and of course popcorn.

We have not conquered the US Education system, from grade school to college, but ceded it. While it churns out little Marxists, we elected to send our own kids through the churn and then bitch about the outcome... that we financed.

I hope you’re right and that the older generation shows up and inspires the next, in order to save this country.

Trump has given us our only shot.

Yours is the extreme minority position!

Don Trump always manages to say what 2/3 of the people are already thinking.

Trump said nothing about legal jeopardy. He said Flynn lied to people and thus needed to be fired.

You have to have a crime to impeach.

They have absolutely nothing, and Trump doesn't go weak-kneed when attacked.

It’s too late for Trump or anyone to fire Mueller. If that was going to happen it should have been done long ago.

"The chief executive cannot “obstruct justice.”"

Uhm. Nixon? The first article of impeachment was obstruction of justice.

On June 17, 1972, and prior thereto, agents of the Committee for the Re-election of the President committed unlawful entry of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in Washington, District of Columbia, for the purpose of securing political intelligence. Subsequent thereto, Richard M. Nixon, using the powers of his high office, engaged personally and through his close subordinates and agents, in a course of conduct or plan designed to delay, impede, and obstruct the investigation of such illegal entry; to cover up, conceal and protect those responsible; and to conceal the existence and scope of other unlawful covert activities.

Trump hasn't obstructed, but it was a DUMB tweet to sloppily lump together the lie to Pence with the lie to the FBI.
