An Israeli air raid early Saturday, Dec. 2 struck a group of pro-Iranian Shiite militia chiefs
holding a secret conference at the Syrian Army’s 91st Brigade base near Kiswah.
Iranian and Hizballah officers are reported among the casualties. ....
The base itself lies 14km southwest of Damascus and around 50km from the Golan.
Gathered there were all the militia commanders operating in southern Syria to receive

Sounds like Israel fired because Syria is becoming a puppet-state of Iran.
Israel has stated numerous times, they don’t want an Iranian base in Syria, they don’t want Iran right on their doorstep. It seems they already have a bit of that with Hezbollah. I was under the impression Israel attacked because this was basically an Iranian base.

Interesting second source. Plausibility increases due to the fact that the official word from Syria is so fast in arriving, and downplays what happened.

I could accept that the firing sequence of the missile includes a release from the platform, giving time for safe separation until the rocket motor (usually a rocket motor) engages.
