“ESPN says it is eliminating 150 studio and production employees”

I’m not an expert on TV production, but there is an enormous amount of editing and special effects in what we see. Look at the very quick edits, the slow motion, jerky motion, distortions of the images. This is especially true in commercials.

I think the editing equipment getting simpler and more powerful and the need for humans is lessened.

shift its focus to a more digital future

Yep, that has got to be the root cause. No other possible explanation. It's definitely time to retire film and buy some servers.

Every person who pays for cable Tv gives about $15/month to ESPN. I’m testing out Philo Tv, there is no Espn, just channels like Amc, history, Discovery, food network etc. $16 a month and you can watch through Roku, Ios, web browser etc. It will be on fire stick soon too. Http://Philo.com and they have a no credit card free trial!

Thanks for posting about

There is another way to hammer these bastards.

First cut your cable and go to Sling Blue.

Sling Blue does not carry ESPN, Disney nor ABC. So these fag control nets which hate America don’t get a monthly payment from you.

Below is bigtoona’s suggestion which is good if you have kids wanting to watch tv.

Digital Furure = We will remember ESPN once existed when we see a picture on a screen somewhere.

ESPN shall join Pan American Airlines and B. Dalton’s Booksellers

Just please terminate Jamele Hill and her racist anti-Trump screeds. She should be scrubbing toilets somewhere.

True but as technology increases and improves the demand for knowledgeable technicians increases with an accompanying increase in cost of labor so they may be sacrificing short-term gains for long-term losses.

It’s already known that salaries are so meager at ESPN HQ that many employees cannot afford cars or long public transportation commutes - they live in quasi-company housing nearby the ESPN campus and ride company buses to work. A microcosm of the socialist dream.

On-air presenters are almost certainly still required to join AFTRA but I’m not sure if off-camera people are members of various unions the way the Big Three network people are. Union rules are one reason golf tournaments often go off the air even if players are still on the course - overtime is very expensive. Given ESPN’s bloody guillotine the odds are that there is no union protection of jobs there.

ESPN’s once-ballyhood college football nerve center in Charlotte - radio/TV - has been all but shuttered. It’s basically a single TV studio and a single radio studio now. Most of the pre- and post-production jobs have been jerked back to Bristol CT. Nervous podcasters and on-air hosts joke about penny-pinching eg flying dodgy airlines, carpooling and cheap motels but there is obviously a grain of truth in all of it.
