Terre Haute girl's death brings attention to SUDC
Tribune-Star ^ | 11-24-2017 | Lisa Trigg

An unpredictable public health concern is being highlighted in Terre Haute and other Hoosier communities in honor of a local toddler who died in 2014.

Allison Jean Hescher died at age 16 months in her crib at home. An autopsy and investigation revealed no known cause of death for the little girl, leading to the category of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, or SUDC.

Now, her mother, Karen Hescher, is bringing the SUDC Banner Project to the area to spread awareness and share the SUDC Foundation’s support and advocacy for families who have experienced the sudden, unexpected death of their children.

“SUDC touched my life on May 2, 2014, when I found my happy and healthy 16 1/2-month-old daughter Allison dead in her crib,” Hescher said. “There was no warning sign. This was totally unexpected, shocking, devastating.”

The banner features photos of children who have died suddenly without a known cause. It has been displayed at fire departments, hospitals, clinics, restaurants and sports venues in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, England and elsewhere.

SUDC is not new, but it is rare, according to the SUDC Foundation. It occurs in about 1.4 deaths per 100,000 children.

While many people are aware of SIDS – Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in infants younger than 12 months – the public is often unaware of SUDC, which affects about 400 children per year through age 19.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2014 SUDC affected 202 children ages 1 to 4 years, another 25 children ages 5 to 9 years, 29 children ages 10 to 14, and 87 teenagers 15 to 19.

When Allison died, a thorough investigation of her home, room, crib and family history was done, as was an autopsy.

Medical examiner Roland Kohr, a forensic pathologist at Regional Hospital, conducted the autopsy. He told the Tribune-Star that despite multiple tests, a cause for the little girl’s death could not be determined.

“It’s a tragedy any time a child dies,” Kohr said. “You look as hard as you can for an answer, and sometimes you come up with an answer, and sometimes you don’t.”

It is common for a family whose child dies to want to know why, he said. Having an undetermined cause of death leaves many questions unanswered.

Allison’s death was particularly hard for many staff at Regional Hospital, where her mother is a registered nurse and coordinator of quality resource management.

Allison was born at Regional Hospital on Dec. 15, 2012, so Hescher feels it is appropriate that the hospital is one of the locations where the banner will be displayed.

“Allison was a delightful little girl. She was always smiling and happy,” her mother said. “She loved to be babied. She loved to suck her thumb, loved her daddy and loved to be held.”

Hescher said she last saw her little girl alive about 1:30 in the morning on May 2, 2014.

“I went to her room, patted down her wispy blonde hair, looked into her bright blue eyes, and told her everything was going to be okay, never realizing that was the last time I would ever see her alive,” Hescher said. “She was in no distress, sucking her thumb contentedly.”

The autopsy estimated her time of death as 3 a.m.

Hescher said the SUDC Foundation was helpful for her family in the weeks after the little girl’s death. They helped with a fully funded DNA research project as part of the search for the cause of death.

Kohr said sometimes a death is caused by an illness or disease that is yet unknown. DNA testing can be helpful with research that could lead to a diagnosis in the future.

For now, Hescher is trying to schedule as many venues as possible to display the SUDC banner to raise awareness.

It is already scheduled to appear Thursday and Friday at Raggedy Ann’s Day Care and Preschool, where Allison attended; at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum on Dec. 2 and 3; and in the lobby at Regional Hospital on Dec. 4 and 5.

Hescher has requested a display of the banner at ISU’s Hulman Center, Lucas Oil Stadium for a Colts game, Bankers Life Fieldhouse for a Pacers game, at Mackey Arena for a Purdue basketball game and at other locations. It will be available until Dec. 18, when she will return the banner to travel with the next family who has requested it.

Hescher said she is thankful Allison was part of her family, and it has become her mission to spread SUDC awareness until answers can be found.

“I am so thankful for the 503 days Allison spent with us on earth,” Hescher said. “She brought so much joy to our family. She has taught us important life lessons – to love unconditionally, in life and in death.”

“”Do you even read what you post? Those were the words used in what you posted””

The case was cited IN THE ARTICLE (not my words) calling attention to the matter which brought it to the forefront of the national vaccine controversy. Until that case, it had been kept very quiet. That is what made it very important and yes, if you prefer as the article said - “not typical”. Which meant the parents were able to seek damages and fight for them. That means it shouldn’t have been considered a viable case?

If not for that case, everyone would still be in the dark about the paying of any claims due to damages caused by vaccines never knowing that all claims against pharmaceutical companies were automatically DENIED!

Why cover up that it has NEVER been front and center in any national discussion? As you could see from the questions posed in the thread, people simply weren’t aware of the vaccine court and the numbers you cited aren’t favorable to prove that it’s all about nothing! You didn’t touch THAT 1/3 of the claims filed were approved in THIRTY YEARS!!!
You cited a statistic and that was it...

“”That is how people who do not understand the scientific method respond””

Sorry sir - that is how democrats respond to come off more superior than others. Doesn’t work....

But Global warming is...

YMMV,but if I had kids these days I would much rather they got measles than autism or SIDS.

You see, I can and do read studies like I quoted on this thread. Note that the study I quoted dovetailed perfectly with the study this thread is about.

Note both were valid separate studies, both on granulation in aluminum injections.

The first study proved a link with toxicity in lower dosage Levels that seemed to indicate that granulation was the bodies defense from heavy metal toxicity.

The second study proved that vaccine producers were ADDING surfactants to reduce ganulation reactions.

A third study that I did not bother to look up for you stated that aluminum in vaccines is safe for the brain because aluminum alone cannot cross the blood brain barrier.

Put the three scientific studies together and I have solved the great mystery why the patients in this study have such a high level of aluminium in their brains.

There is none so blind as those who refuse to see...

Would you like to discuss why the symptoms of mad hatters disease are the same as autism?

Lady, I may have an unusually high IQ, but I am no super genius. If I in casual study can provide three linked studies that explain this, and can also prove the links to mercury and autism WHY CANNOT THE VACCINE INDUSTRY?

OH, wait. They have lobbied for unique legislation to protect them from liability for the millions of brain damaged and deaths they have made their Billions on.

Seems they have known a long time.

As long as they can get rich off of your family’s destruction, it will never become data. NO study will ever be made.

I suggest you swallow your snark and wake up. Modern leftists don’t want to kill all the intellectuals, just their intellect, and the elderly.

Modern leftists don’t wear black Nazi uniforms, they wear white lab coats...

Pick some other red herring.....global warming suffers exactly the same flaws in science that those trying to prove causality of autism by vaccination suffers

I had a sister who died from SIDS >50 years ago. She wasn’t even old enough to start getting vaccines, so I can’t point to vaccines as a probable cause. Things just happen. Sadly, this also happened to a family at church recently.

I have a question about SUDS. I know that young people with Type 1 diabetes can be found dead in bed, presumably from a low blood sugar in the night. Does anyone know if low blood sugar can be shown at autopsy? What if a child is undiagnosed and perhaps has the first low blood sugar incident at night - could the ME tell it was from diabetes?

Data denial syndrome I suspect.

Autism is another set of studies, I think I will resist pissing in the wind for you. By all means, it’s a free country do as you wish. But, just perhaps you might hesitate the double strength flu shots for seniors.

Never heard of this. Sounds to me like “SIDS” was a wild guess about what was happening and it still continues to this day. While generations of children are imprinted by never being allowed to sleep on their stomachs.

Every vaccine has some victims. If only one in a million and they give it to 300 million, that’s three hundred families whose lives are wrecked. They are not honest about the side effects of herd immunization. I suspect they are not honest about the benefits of it either.

How many times have you heard of people getting the flu right after the shot? Now we all know it’s a dead vaccine right?

So. What is it? And why do the symptoms not match the flu strain?

Do your own research this time. Or, trust the system to do your thinking for you.

We are being lied to about every aspect of our lives that touches on the establishment narrative. Little doubt that people distrust the establishment narrative on vaccines, especially when there are now SO MANY of them. Moreover, there is SOME reason autism has been becoming exponentially more prevalent. Apparently no one knows what it is (or can’t say). Might seem to be something that would be important to find out, no?

That is a good question. One of my goals is to see that more comprehensive autopsies are done on these cases so that we can better understand and hopefully someday prevent more deaths. The testing done was minimal (tox screen to test for all drugs used and abused by adults and a carbon monoxide test.) This is one of the reasons we are hiring an independent Neuro-pathologist for additional review and testing. The babies brain tissue is being shipped from the Arizona Medical Examiner to the Doctor I found that I feel is a good resource.

The theory that makes the most sense to me is that some children are more vulnerable because their brain is different, they are more susceptible to seizures and SUDC because of some outside trigger they quit breathing and die in their sleep. Their is more to it but the vaccination can be determined to be that TRIGGER.
