A former staffer in a state office of Rep. John Conyers is accusing the Michigan Democrat of sexual misconduct in a story published early Tuesday by The Detroit News.
Deanna Maher, who worked for Conyers from 1997 to 2005, told the newspaper that Conyers made unwanted sexual passes on three occasions.
“I didn’t report the harassment because it was clear nobody wanted to take it seriously,” Maher said. “John Conyers is a powerful man in Washington, and nobody wanted to cross him.”
Maher said Conyers propositioned her to stay in his hotel room on one occasion and on two others touched her inappropriately.
A reporter from another Detroit newspaper confirmed to The Detroit News that Maher previously discussed Conyers’s alleged actions with him, but declined to go on the record.
A lawyer for the congressman, Arnold Reed, cast doubt on the new claims.
“At best, they are uncorroborated. At worst, they’re just not believable,” Reed told The Detroit News.
“At the end of the day, he’s confident that he will be exonerated because he maintains that he has not done anything wrong,” Reed added.
Conyers earlier this week stepped down from his position as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee after acknowledging that he settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015, but denied the sexual harassment allegations made against him.
The House Ethics Committee last week said it opened an investigation into the allegations against Conyers.
Conyers routinely flew in sex partners on the taxpayers' dime, hit on his female staffers, and his office was a den of sexual intrigue — he summoned a staffer to his room and asked her to "touch it" (his icon penis).
He also tried to pimp out a staffer----told the staffer she was to find women to accomodate his sexual needs.
One staffer was treated to Conyers perverted exhibitionism......giving himself a thrill walking around his office in his tight-fitting skivies as she watched.
Their staffers’ reluctance to report pervey Congressmen is most troubling.
These are liberal Democrats constantly touting their tolerance and compassion for every misfit and weirdo.
Most of them support the Violence Against Women Act.
Yet, their own female staffers fear them. The liberals think nothing of intimidating staffers b/c its their way of saving their political *****.
The hypocrisy of these liberal Democrats is astounding.
Sounds very much like many of his cohorts think the same way. Glad to hear their antics are being brought to the surface.
They are ALL falling or took a deal to retire.

A sick old man that needs some jail time to cool off. If the tax payers demand no more tax funds to be used to pay off those who accuse or indeed have been assaulted, perhaps there will be fewer such incidents. Make the “perverts” pay for their own misdeeds.

They have quite a scam: pass pro-woman legislation so as to be a “champion” of women’s rights while simultaneously harassing, abusing and generally using women for their perverted pleasures. I guess this puts to rest just who really has promoted a “war on women”. Hypocritical perverts. To top it off, these bum losers created a secret taxpayer-funded account to make payoffs to those whop they abused. What great “leaders”, no? These criminal deviants need outed and prosecuted.
This one hardly looks like sexual harassment. He asked her to stay and she left and who knows what touching her means.
Conyers loves to stand up there in Congress and pontificate about his "good work" in lawmaking.
Betcha a timeline of his sexual activities will show that he was feeling good about himself and felt "entitled to sex" on the taxpayer's dime.
For instance, he had just completed work on getting the Violence Against Women Act passed, and now it was his turn to make a woman pay-up for his "goodness."
Wonder what kind of sexual activity he extracted for demonstrating that bit of "sensitivity" toward women?

TGhis kind of ttitude from men in power is exactly why so many sexual assaults go unreported.
Powerful men committing unwanted advances or much more & the female is left in the lurch.
Ask yourself why such a high percentage of rapes go unreported ..... & then think back to the 50’s , 60’s & 70’s and realize that most of us know someone who was damaged by such actions of a man, and the woman kept quiet.
I know a couple of women who went thru hell & never were able to tell their stories. One committed suicide & no one could figure out why. I knew why, and I knew I couldn’t prove a thing.

These leaches need to be removed from the positions they hold. Right down to the lowest staffer who is guilty.
It shows how he and his supporters think, doesn't it -- I know plenty of dirt, but as long as no one exposes mine, I won't expose anyone else's. And then the fact that I said this will be off limits for my second half-century in Congress.
