The case of John Conyers shows what Democrats really think about harassment
NY Post ^ | Nov 27, 2017 | Rich Lowry

There are sexual harassers, and then there is John Conyers, the Democrat from Detroit who made his congressional office an adjunct of his libido.

The evidence suggests Conyers believed that as a 27-term congressman he was entitled to the Washingon, DC, equivalent of the Ottoman Imperial Harem.

He routinely hit on his female staffers and his office was a den of sexual intrigue — allegedly featuring a jealous wife and a vindictive mistress — that properly belongs in a Bravo reality show if the network ever extends its “Real Housewives” franchise to Capitol Hill.

A political party is rarely provided an easier test case for its bona fides. Conyers is an 88-year-old man who finds it increasingly difficult to carry out his duties. He holds an exceedingly safe seat that, should he resign, will be taken over by another reliably progressive Democrat. In this case, the political cost to the party of showing that it’s serious about “zero tolerance” for sexual harassment is almost nil.

Yet House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, when asked about Conyers on “Meet the Press,”mumbled and looked at her shoes. She wasn’t able to summon any dudgeon, let alone high dudgeon, about Conyers. The harshest thing she said is that, “as John reviews his case — which he knows, which I don’t — I believe he will do the right thing.”

Oh, really? Conyers did step down as the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee. Otherwise, his careful review of his own case has produced categorical denials that even Pelosi must find incredible.

It’s true Conyers hasn’t had his day in front of the House Ethics Committee. But neither has Roy Moore. That hasn’t kept Pelosi from denouncing him.

It's all about power. What makes this different is that the GOP seems intent on allowing Dems to hold on to theirs while weakening their own.

I had a discussion about this not too long ago with a woman bent on casting both Republicans and Democrats from the same cloth.

I asked her to name prominent Democrats who had sex scandals, which she did, and then I asked her where they were. For the most part, the great majority are still in the halls of power.

Then I let her go on about all of the Republican sex scandals, which she was very well versed on. I asked the same question and got a lot of evasion. All of the ones she listed had been kicked out, voted out, or self removed, none were still in the halls of power.

Good or bad, the Republicans tend to clean house and get rid of the scum.

It's a small thing, but I immediately noticed the 'NO PUBLIC ACCESS post - with chain attached - warning the pesky icky citizens/taxpayers not to approach the gilded steps or the illuminati descending them.

We hear about representative/republican government but even the greenest freshman from the least populous district suddenly believes he is a demigod.

It's also ironic that Congress would do such a horrible job that they would generate so many dangerous (they think) enemies, including millions of militant Islamists would would love to repay Congress' kindness by slitting their throats.

The public owns the building but they're not permitted to enter or even walk outside it. A microcosm of our current government.

Conyers is this week’s poster child for Democrat Hypocrisy.

That Democrats have the nerve to say “Republican war on women” is just sick.

Sexual harassment is useful like any other charge of malfeasance. It is good if it can be used to damage enemies of the Left. Among the Left it is a nonissue. The Left has always believed that the Leaders have unlimited access to women or to boys. It is necessary for them as they have the weight of designing and running the world. There is no God so there is no Right and Wrong, only correct and incorrect. And what about female Leaders? There are none and there will be none. Women are propped up and used where they are useful.

Their staffers’ reluctance to report pervey Congressmen is most troubling.

These are liberal Democrats constantly touting their tolerance and compassion for every misfit and weirdo they can find.

Most of them support the Violence Against Women Act.

Yet, their own female staffers fear them.

The liberals think nothing of intimidating staffers b/c its their way of saving their political *****.

The hypocrisy of these liberal Democrats is astounding.
