Veteran actor Denzel Washington says his latest role as a dogged defense attorney in Roman J. Israel, Esq. reinforced his belief that black men cant blame the system because we make it easy work when it comes to filling Americas prisons.
It starts at the home. It starts at home. It starts with how you raise your children. If a young man doesnt have a father figure, hell go find a father figure, the Academy Award-winner told reporters at the Dan Gilroy-directed films New York premiere, the New York Daily News reports.
So you know I cant blame the system. Its unfortunate that we make such easy work for them, Washington said.

Hated Training Day. Denzel can’t play a bad guy!
Can’t they start with not killing each other? How much training does that take?
Ha. A little deranged so I like it.
Thanks.
Welfare state created this situation. It was not this was before the 1960’s. Thank you Pres. Johnson
You nailed it
Why?? He thinks kids need dad? What’s wrong with that?
He’s always been a pretty good guy.
Two choices:
1. Model citizen changing things from within the system
2. Revolution - violent overthrow leaving revolutionaries in charge
All of us have the same basic choice to make, every morning when we wake. Civilization or anarchy, its only a conscious choice away. Every day. Welcome to America, the only nation where you are FREE to choose! Choose wisely!
I hope Denzel doesn’t have any skeletons in his closet because if he does, he will be treated like Herman Cain. You simply can’t state the obvious and get away with it.
“Its unfortunate that we make such easy work for them”
Maybe I should give him a pass on the above, because the rest of it is so good, but I don’t at all like the message being implied above - that there is some significant group of people - them (white men I guess)- that want to have young black men in prison, just because, and therefore when young black men commit crimes it makes it “easy work for them”.
At best he’s just gratuitously as a throwaway line aimed at getting a mostly brainwashed racism-is-everywhere audience to hear the rest of his message, and at worst he also actually believes that ... but either way it reinforces that fallacy, so I don’t like it.
I think I’ll go and see this movie. I generally stick to Christian flicks, but if we have even one Hollywood star who supports conservative principles, I’ll support him with my wallet.
I totally agree. The left tends to destroy especially black celebrities that stray from leftist dogma.
Danzel has always been a Christian man.
I have also suspected he was Woke Up long before others were merely Woke.
He’ll pay for speaking up
Time until he disappears under a pile of sexual harassment claims: 10, 9, 8, ....
Omg, you go so off the rails sometimes. I just cant. Bill Cosby is a sick serial rapist who all but killed his victims drugging them with who knows what. That completely cancels out any righteous maxims about black youth he may have spewed.
When I see complaints about not enough black people winning Oscars, I say, “It’s simple. Be as good as Denzel Washington”.
Probably the only actor who, if I see he’s in a movie, usually watch it. And am seldom disappointed.
I believe you are misreading what he is saying.
My take was, "We make it easy to go to jail because we do not have good fathers to show the way. You start with crimes and pretty soon you are in the system".
ie. You make it easy to be in jail because you do crimes.
