It's an anniversary of sorts -- and should be something of a national holiday.
Twenty years ago, Jim Robinson became FReeper #1 on this website, and we all are much the better for it.
I found FreeRepublic.com via my news aggregator at the time, The Drudge Report. Quickly I lost interest in that site in favor of this my new home page.
I found that Freerepublic is just not a news aggregator, but an intelligence aggregator. Thanks to the overwhelming diversity of interests amongst the FReeper community, we can go from the smallest subatomic particles to the vastness of inter-gallactic space in only a few posts. And from pottery shards from the earliest human civilizations to the flying car concepts from the day after tomorrow.
Thought provoking discussions about history, religion and even cold fusion and train travel has intrigued us over the past twenty years.
And those are just some side benefits to one of the best sites anywhere for the sharing of conservative and patriotic ideas.
Thanks, Jim, for following through on the glimmer of your idea for this site. Happy Anniversary memories and hopes and prayers for many more anniversaries to come!
Hear, hear!
Thank you very much, Oscar in Batangas!!
Thank you, Freeper #1.
Newby!
I found Freerepublic referenced at Free Dominion, a similar Canadian site that unfortunately met its demise do to the absence of actual free speech in Soviet Kanuckistan. There are two things i really enjoy about FR: the comments from American military veterans, and the insightful local commentary we get on election threads.
Member since 2/3/1998 and was here before those dates were assigned.
Thanks, Jim!!!!

I know...I should have signed up long before I did.
Jim may not be logged in.

Kudos! Best ever site, Oscar, for all the reasons you listed.
I meant Jim. :-)
Welcome to FR, newby!
Working security at the March for Justice
Meeting a member of the all-time favorite band at FR events
Having my daughter sing at the Impeachment Rally.
Happy Birthday Freeper #1! Your present is in the Freepathon kitty!
Happy Anniversary JimRob! And God Bless!
Thanks Oscar in Batangas.
Me too.I was haunting a CSPAN forum at the time, but it was moribund with only a handful of users, more liberal than conservative.
I enjoyed the challenge there, but this is my cyber home.
Someone mentioned how nice it was back in the 1950s, in many ways. But I pointed out that we then had NBC, CBS, ABC - and the newspapers.
I asked if he would really be happy when there was no FR???
Agreed. A lot of fun and meaningful and hopefully influential stuff here.
Thanks Jim.
My son was in Iraq with the 10th Mountain Division, (hence - MountainDad), early in the war, 2003, and I was searching for any information coming out of there.
A friend suggested FreeRepublic and found more information here than anywhere else. Been here ever since, although for whatever reason, failed to sign up until 2005.
How exactly do we nominate Jim for the nobel peace prize?
Of course, he may not want it considering how 0bama dirtied it.
Joined officially Feb. 26, 1999. I lurked for about a year. It’s been so long I can’t remember how I found FR. Possibly through Drudge’s site.
