Disaster/CR/Debt Bill Postpones Fiscal Cliff to Dec. 8, 2017
On Sept. 8, 2017 President Trump signed HR 601, an emergency measure negotiated with congressional Democratic leaders... all the no votes being Republican. The bill has four components:
1. Provides $15.25 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations ... 2. Extends the National Flood Insurance program...
3. Suspends the debt ceiling through December 8, 2017, temporarily avoiding a Treasury default on U.S. obligations; and
4. Provides continuing appropriations

Shutdown happens Dec 8. The government runs out of money.
In the last shutdown, the Ted Cruz shutdown, 13% of the government shutdown, aka non-essential employees. Here in Atlanta, parking lots were crammed. Normally parking lots are not full because many Federal employees do not come to work. But no Federal employee wanted to be labeled non-essential during the shutdown despite the obvious conclusion that they in fact do consider themselves non-essential by not showing up for work most of the time.
Let's have another 13% shutdown. Let Trump, with the acquiescence of Congress, designate which 13% of the Federal government is non-essential. Are diversity offices essential? Why not state that every Federal employee, and every citizen and non-citizen in the US is expected to obey the law. Then diversity offices are not needed.
We could identify entire staff of certain under-secretaries of bureaucracy whose entire staff is non-essential. How many civilians in the Pentagon are non-essential?
What a way to drain the swamp.
What a way to win.
Freeeeeee...fallin...
Where is Budget Boffin PRyno’s Budget?
Let’s have a 90% shutdown, keeping only the military and Cabinet positions.
Anything the states can handle with their own bureaucracies should be shuttered.
More winning.
Oh, fer cryin’ out loud. Not this (bleep) agian. Fedzilla does NOT shut down. Essential services, and brother there are a lot of them considered essential, still operate. And default is NOT a concern since Treasury takes in enough every month to cover our debt service payments.
Aaaassrgh.
Its the old federal employee work from home scam. Lots of home in it, but even less work involved than the little work they do when theyre actually at the office.
Anyhow, President Trump needs to let it be known ahead of time that he will not approve back pay for non essential employees who are furloughed. Those people need to be told, in advance, to file for unemployment benefits. They should also be told that there is no guarantee that they will be called back to work. Lets see then just how eager Senators and Representatives from States/districts with many federal employees are to shut down the government.
Just freeze the National Debt Number for a couple of Months the same way Obama did.
Cue the “not the hill to die on” Republicans.
“Essential services, and brother there are a lot of them considered essential, still operate.”
It would be an epiphany to actually have only those agencies that are Constitutionally mandated stay operational so we could see that indeed 90% of what we pay for at the Federal level is non-essential. But these agencies know that if that were to happen, their very existence would be threatened.
