The belated attempt by the left to cover their hypocrisy on sexual predators by throwing Bill and Hillary Clinton under the bus now that they have no further political use for them is staggering. They forget their mantra that his being serviced by Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office was personal and didn’t matter as long as he was doing a good job as President. It was the GOP, you know, that was waging a war on women.
Republicans were the predators, as serial accuser and so-called feminist lawyer Gloria Allred reminded us when she appeared with a box of tissue and victims to accuse GOP candidates Herman Cain, Donald Trump and, now, Judge Roy Moore, She is not going to be found at a press conference with the victims of Sen. Bob Menendez, Sen. Al Franken, and Rep. John Conyers.
The “right on the issues” defense does not apply to Republicans like Judge Roy Moore, nor does presumption of innocence. Democratic hypocrites rushed to condemn Moore faster than you can say “Anthony Weiner.” Franken, Menendez, and Conyers are right on the issues, which may be why the chorus for their unseating is, to say the least, somewhat muted. Judge Moore has been accused of dallying with underage girls, which is a charge his accusers are mysteriously not bringing up against Bill Clinton, a frequent passenger on the jet of accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Look at the mothers in Alabama who have a 32 year old Roy Moore permission to date their teenage daughters because he was an assistant DA. Tripp, Monica Lewinsky’s confidante, talks about others finally acknowledging that Bill Clinton is a sexual predator.
Back then, Linda Tripp assumed that when the Lewinsky information became public, most people would share her assessment of Bill Clinton’s behavior. It was a reasonable assumption. “If he’s not telling the truth, he’s done,” ABC’s Sam Donaldson said in the early days of the Lewinsky scandal in 1998.
But Donaldson, like Tripp and many others, underestimated the ability of the Clintons and their enablers to seize the narrative and to fashion from damning facts a defense.
The Clintons setup a tax-paid team to investigate what Hillary called “bimbo eruptions.” It speaks to the Clinton depravity that he knew all of this was true and yet allowed tax dollars to be spent to save his political ***.
Clinton team’s first strategy was to attack Lewinsky.
Sidney Blumenthal, the former journalist and trusted confidant of Hillary Clinton, arranged a lunch with his friend the writer Christopher Hitchens in the hope of convincing him that Lewinsky was an unstable stalker.
Appalled by the effort by the president and his team of smear artists, Hitchens filed an affidavit testifying to Blumenthal’s effort.
But the whispering campaign was hardly subtle. It was widely enough known that Maureen Dowd wrote a New York Times column headlined “Liberties: The Slander Strategy.” “Inside the White House, the debate goes on about the best way to destroy That Woman, as the President called Monica Lewinsky,” Dowd wrote. “Should they paint her as a friendly fantasist or a malicious stalker?” (Hillary called her a narcistic loony tune.”)
There were limits for even the most ardent Clinton supporters, though, Dowd noted: “At least some of the veteran Clinton shooters feel a little nauseated this time around, after smearing so many women who were probably telling the truth, labeling Clinton’s victims as trashy bimbos.”
The strategy changed. The Lewinsky relationship was next a consensual affair between adults and a matter properly resolved within the privacy of the Clinton marriage.
ADDENDUM-—The Clintons cunningly exploited Billy’s BJ for votes....he got reelected and she got into the US Senate not long after.
