Please do.
That makes it worse, in most states hunting on private property is immediate trespass.
Will we find out this was his ex wife and he owed her money?
Well obviously this guy wasn’t a competent hunter otherwise he wouldn’t be out there after fuck*ng dark.
Put the shooter out there about 200 yards and let her family take some shots at him, till dead.
I don’t know everyone, of course, but the majority of hunters around here use a shotgun with a deer slug. I do not hunt, but the people who do stress, 1) know your target and 2) know what’s behind your target. And 5:30 is dark around here, well after sunset. If he is legitimate, folks around here have a name for this guy. City hunter.
He should be charged on several counts including not only negligent homicide but also hunting after sunset and hunting on land without permission. There is no excuse for what he did and a woman, a mans wife is dead because of his negligence.
Sadly, this happens all too often and unfortunately tends to give all hunters a bad and undeserved reputation among the anti-gun and anti-hunting groups as the majority of gun oweners and hunters are responsible.
Then again there will be some who will try to say it was her own fault for not wearing a bright orange vest and a big sign saying Dont shoot. I am not a deer and being outside during hunting season
I’m sure he would. He did manage to hit an already rifle-shot deer with his pistol, didn’t he? I’ve done a LOT of shooting.
At 200 yards with a pistol in normal hunting conditions, you can’t hit anything reliably.
Maybe a whitetail?
I’m not familiar with the laws in NY, but, in some states, like MN it is legal to hunt until 1/2 hour AFTER sunset.
I wouldn’t, nor would anyone in my party.
I believe one of the main hunting rules is never to fire unless you clearly identified your target visually.
Also there is something fishy in the story. Killing a woman with the pistol after sundown sounds unlikely a hunting mishap.
Buddy of mine shot an antelope at 926 yards with a custom handgun.
Of coutse, it WAS daylight.
A lot of hunters claim shotguns make you a better stalker.
LOL...that is what you're arguing. The assertion I made in my first post was simply, "A Thompson Center Contender or any other of a number of special purpose built hunting/silhouette pistols can easily take a deer at 200 yards." I still stand by that. I said nothing about shooting conditions, light, weather, wind etc. And in fact, I qualified that assertion stating, "Of course, 20 yards is too far a shot if the shooter cant positively ID the target."
Hunting after dark where it's illegal? Definitely an irresponsible hunter. Pulling the trigger without being 100% certain of the target? Definitely irresponsible/negligent. But you mentioned none of these things in your post #3 to which I originally responded. All you said in your original post was, "200 yard pistol shot? Nah." The right pistol with the right optics and right ammunition will humanely kill a deer at that range.
No excuse.
Probably an AR pistol.
With a chain saw bayonet?
This stinks like an Antifa protestor on a summer’s day...
= = =
protester? How about Posterior?
Will we find out this was his ex wife and he owed her money?

He was Dear hunting.
An idiot. Deer are so common in the east that at my Mom’s place on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you could get one with a 9 Iron and some baby carrots.
