TOKYO (AP) An aircraft carrying 11 crew and passengers crashed into the Pacific Ocean Wednesday while on the way to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, the Navy said.
The Japan-based 7th Fleet said in a statement that the search and rescue operation was launched from the carrier.
Personnel recovery is underway and their condition will be evaluated by USS Ronald Reagan medical staff, the statement said.
It said the ship was operating in the Philippine Sea, which is east of the Philippines, when the crash occurred at 2:45 p.m. Japan time. The names of the crew and passengers are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, the Navy said.
The 7th Fleet has had two fatal accidents in Asian waters this year, leaving 17 sailors dead and prompting the removal of eight top Navy officers from their posts, including the 7th Fleet commander.
The USS John S. McCain and an oil tanker collided near Singapore in August, leaving 10 U.S. sailors dead. Seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship collided off Japan.
The Navy has concluded that the collisions were avoidable and resulted from widespread failures by the crews and commanders, who didnt quickly recognize and respond to unfolding emergencies. A Navy report recommended numerous changes to address the problems, ranging from improved training to increasing sleep and stress management for sailors.
Evaluating condition = hopeful wording? Maybe a gentle ditch, praying it was.
Type of plane involved.
Ping. Sigh......
Sully Sullenberg impersonator is needed here.
Prayers.......
Navy electronics systems are a catastrophic failure. Ships are crashing, planes falling out of the sky. Yet the experts are 100 percent sure the problem is not software or eletronic.
In the latest incident involving the American military in Okinawa, a U.S. Navy C-2 transport aircraft carrying 11 crew members and passengers crashed into the ocean 150 km northwest of Okinotorishima on Wednesday.
Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told reporters that eight of the 10 to 11 aboard the aircraft had been rescued and that the U.S. military had said the cause of the crash appeared to be engine trouble. Kyodo News, meanwhile, quoted Onodera as saying that at least two of those aboard were still missing.
The names of the crew and passengers were being withheld pending next of kin notification, the U.S. Navys 7th Fleet said in a statement.
Personnel recovery is underway and their condition will be evaluated by USS Ronald Reagan medical staff, it said.
The aircraft was en route to the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, which is currently operating in the Philippine Sea. The Reagan is home-ported at the U.S. naval base in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The 7th Fleet said the Reagan was conducting search and rescue operations.
The ships involved in the collisions were beset with poor leadership and improper watchstanding, not electronic failures. The reports regarding those accidents clearly point that out.
Thanks
FNS ticker says “11 rescued”.
...eight of the 10 to 11 aboard the aircraft had been rescued...
Good for them but the others?
Hope for the best.
My knee jerk is it’s either suicidal sodomite, or mohamicidal mohamadan, maybe both.

One more legacy from the 8 years of Obama Alinsky based liberal fascism. Our military is a minefield , rife with dysfunctional entrapment, intentionally brought about by the Obama collective. These issues are designed to destroy morale
and kill good men and women , so as to de-popularize even joining the military. And the fools in the command structure loyal to the psychopomp were promoted to key military posts to make it happen, even after the unAmerican idiot has left the room.IMHO he has not left the room far enough yet, he needs to take one more step, directly into the trash bin of history.
Believe me, it was intentional:

Thanks for the ping. Prayers for the crew. Not good, I think those things would be pretty bad to escape from if they had to ditch.
Sigh. Not good.
x_plus_one, crashes happen. They happen all the time in aviation, and with planes flying over long stretches of water with no divert, they likely happen at a greater frequency.
This has nothing to do with the spate of ship collisions in the last year.
It is not a systemic problem (except for perhaps training or readiness)
In cases like these, it is best to use Occam’s Razor when trying to make head from tails.
Your knee jerk reaction should be that it is unintentional pilot error or equipment failure.
No need to introduce homosexuals or Islam into it, except that perhaps more training time that could have increased the quality of aircraft maintenance or crew readiness was instead spent on sensitivity training for those things.
I agree with your take on the Obama Administration and Liberals in general with respect to the intentional damage to the readiness and morale of the military, but I suspect x_plus_one was implying sabotage or hacking, which seems to be a common reaction nowadays.
I would disagree with that, and if I had to have 20 possible causes to list in order of likelihood, that would be #20 if it even made the list.
I have always thought how spot on that graphic is that shows a picture of Obama captioned with something like “if you assume everything Obama did was intentional his actions make sense”.
I can’t find it, but I see it here on FR occasionally.
