The preponderance of alleged sexual impropriety committed by Alabama Republican senate candidate Judge Roy Moore has yet to dissuade several prominent Republicans from voting for him. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced Friday she still supports Moore. Ivey specifically said she does so due to potential Supreme Court vacancies.
"I believe in the Republican Party, what we stand for, and most important, we need to have a Republican in the United States Senate to vote on things like Supreme Court justices, other appointments the Senate has to confirm and make major decisions,” Ivey told reporters on Friday. Ivey also said she has no reason not to believe Moore's accusers, but noted that the timing of their accusations is "curious."
Roy Moore is accused by various women in the state of Alabama for either dating or attempting to make sexual advances towards them when they were teenagers. One woman claims this happened when she was as young as 14 and Moore was in his 30s. The most heinous of these allegations comes from Beverly Nelson, who says Roy Moore raped her when she was 16.
But, unless there is hidden audio, video, or some other photographic evidence, there is no way to prove that these women are telling the truth. However, Daily Wire writer and Twitter extraordinaire Matt Walsh summed up the situation nicely:

Gov. Ivey’s position is truly no different than Washington Post columnist Kate Harding’s stance on Al Franken. There is actual photo evidence that Franken assaulted a sleeping Leeann Tweeden. Plus, Tweeden accused the former Saturday Night Live host of shoving his tongue down her throat without consent. Yet Harding is willing to forgo her moral compass to allow Franken to stay in power. To Harding, Franken should remain in power because he is voting the right way. He has a chance, in her mind, to protect women through future votes. Harding says her position can still change. "Only one woman has alleged that Franken assaulted her; if her story emboldens others to tell theirs, and the senator is revealed to be a serial predator, then I wouldn’t want him in a position of power for one more minute.”
Now, to be fair, Leeann Tweeden has said that she does not want Sen. Franken to step down. She maintains her only goal was to empower other victims of sexual assault to come forward. What Leeann Tweeden went through is clearly very traumatic. It was brave of her to come forward, especially against a person of power both in Hollywood and in Congress. But, unless Franken is punished, how emboldened will other assault victims be to reveal their stories? What good is it if victims come forward, but then no consequences occur to the perpetrator once it is determined they are telling the truth?
Harding and Ivey are both playing to the ugliness that pervades American politics; tribalism. Ivey puts forth quite explicitly that her allegiance is to the GOP. Harding says she is loyal to Democrats. Ivey says she has no reason not to believe the women, but justifies her decision because of the Supreme Court. Harding essentially says one woman is not that bad, so why bother getting rid of Franken and lose votes? The two are putting their tribes - Democrats and Republicans - ahead of individuals.
The problem is both these public figures view the battle between the GOP and the Democrat Party as a true civil war. Both are taking radical positions and truly embracing Saul Alinsky. One of his famed rules is, “In war, the end justifies almost any means.” Like many Americans, these two are putting their short term goals ahead of what should be their rock solid principles.
Moore wins and is a discredited member of the Senate...
He can cast the right vote, of course, but can he truly fight the Swamp? Will anyone listen to him?
Moore needs to be completely vindicated against his accusers...

Every vote is always a vote for the lessor of two evils when dealing with people.
But Judge Moore is clean on this matter.
I agree completely. I never much cared for Moore who I have always regarded as something of a wingnut. And for the record, I no longer believe his denials. There is too much evidence here for some kind of frame up. Most of these women are probably telling the truth.
Unfortunately we are where we are. The choice is between a creep and someone who thinks its OK to kill babies. And the Supreme Court is at risk. My painful advice to Alabamians is to hold your nose and vote for the creep. If he is elected and these allegations hold up then he can be expelled from the Senate. If that happens we go back to square 1. The Governor (a Republican) gets to appoint a new Senator pending another special election.
Hopefully we will do better in our choice of candidate next time around.
Yep, the Bible says the poor will always be amongst us. And some FReepers are proving that the gullible will always be amongst us. The Swamp depends upon it.
Yes, he does, but it’s up to the voters of Alabama to vote for him.
Actually right now he doesn't. There are just accusations and no proof. So he really doesn't have to do squat regarding these accusations between now and the election. Others should do that for him. Roy should stay focused on his message and go on the attack against Doug Jones' weaknesses.
I just heard the latest Doug Jones commercial which was made after the Moore allegations. Now Jones parades a group of so-called Republicans saying "what happened to integrity" and that they will vote for Jones etc. Moore has not been running any ads. I might have seen one of them.

The idea is to always being no one has a motive to fool you.

I confess that I haven’t troubled myself with studying the matter seriously, and I’m not ashamed to take a position in favor of Moore without doing so.It’s enough to know that the people who dug up these allegations are cynical liberals known as journalists. If they were serious good-government types and this stuff were on the up-and-up, they would have reported this stuff in time to prevent Moore from winning the primary. Obviously they did not do that - and just as obviously, the point was to attack the Republican nominee, not to prevent the nomination of a flawed one.
If they have convinced you that Moore is flawed, I understand - but you have no reason to believe that the Democrat is better. The liberals who have sprung this attack on Moore found - or maybe created via tendentious questioning - these charges against Moore. But they have less than no interest in finding true allegations against Jones, and would viciously savage any attempt by Moore to out Jones on some scandal if he did find one. You are taking the bona fides of Jones on faith if you vote for him, and WRT Democrats I admit it - my faith is weak. And I ain’t gonna pray to the Democrats asking them to help my unbelief.

In all of his public life, not one single allegation made against him. They tried such scurrilous smears against Trump, and failed. Then, they got quiet. Recently, the Weinstein debacle and the "me too" wave of claims aimed at nearly every man ever born. That seemed to be effective....this time. Riding that wave, we have the Libs attempt to smear Judge Moore. Now, after decades of not a peep, useful tools are dragged to the spotlight in an attempt to slander and smear and corrupt an election.
Too convenient is right. Throw in Gloria Al-RED and what do we get.

If you go by that, all the 'Rats have to do to shoot down any GOP candidate is find some women to lie about things that took place too long ago to check.
That takes time. More time than the election allows so go figure. My guess is these allegations disappear after the election and unless Moore wants to keep the alive in court on a libel suit the slip away. Personally I would burn them all and bankrupt them but that is me. Most if not all are trailer trash honey buns so the whole blood from a turnip comes into the decision.
I would look for a link to someone higher in the food chain and hit that.
He doesn’t need to be clean or honest to get my vote.
But he needs to be vindicated before he can be the national player in the Senate we need him to be.
If we say “he may be a scumbag, but he’s our scumbag, so let’s vote for him,” we are just throwing more trash on his reputation. We’re serving Mitch. We ought not concede his guilt in these matters.
