Well, Rosenberg itself is a few miles southwest of Houston. The man it’s named after came to TX before it became a state, but after the Civil War started.
The town started as a railroad town called Rosenberg Junction, by law being placed near Richmond (the law said the railroad had to come within one mile of the Fort Bend County courthouse); the intent of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad (which Rosenberg was president of) was to have a westbound rail route bypassing the congestion of Houston.
President of the Santa Fe R.R. is a pretty good break for a new comer.
Always have associated Galveston with Jean Lafitte, another man who found success in the Gulf.
Although it sounds like Rosenberg probably had a better retirement!
Could you help me understand what year that was?
