President Donald Trump delivered a fiery speech on trade here Friday, declaring that he would not allow the United States to be “taken advantage of anymore” and planned to place “America first.” And then, less than 24-hours later, 11 Pacific-Rim countries collectively shrugged and moved on without the U.S.

“We are not going to let the United States be taken advantage of anymore,” he said. “I am always going to put America first, the same way that I expect all of you in this room to put your countries first.”

Instead, he said the U.S. was still a willing trade partner, but only for deals based on “mutual respect and mutual benefit.”

Which is why Trump was elected.

Right. The writer will have us believe that none of these Pacific Rim countries will want to strike a bi-lateral deal with the US, the largest most profitable trading partner in the world.

See, we weren’t taken advantage of.

The SJ Mercury is a far-left rag. If POTUS cured cancer the Mercury would accuse him of putting oncologists out of work.

We can watch how this works out for Canada as an objective observer. Time will ultimately tell if it was right or wrong to join. But given our history with NAFTA, I’d wager we are better off holding off. Our country hasn’t been too smart negotiating trade. Look at how China protects it’s internal market from US goods while exporting to us more than any other country. I wouldn’t want to see that repeated with many other countries too.

Its about time we get over this crazy desire to have a deal at any cost. That’s the mindset that has caused us so many problems.

Trump is absolutely right: its better to have no deal than a bad deal.

Exactly, instead of being in the group-hug same shirt photo we can now cut individual deals with those who negotiate effectively on their own. And screw those who can’t. Asian exceptionalism?

A triumph of the individual nation is the same as individual triumph. Winners and losers, not participation ribbons for all.

Works for me. We should negotiate our own terms with our trade partners, not as part of a group.

I, too, am tired of America being taken advantage of. MAGA!

“I will make bilateral trade agreements with any Indo-Pacific nation that wants to be our partner and that will abide by the principles of fair and reciprocal trade,” he said. “What we will no longer do is enter into large agreements that tie our hands, surrender our sovereignty, and make meaningful enforcement practically impossible.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The media makes it sound like not being part of this 11 country agreement is a bad thing. Sounds to me like a 'good' thing and totally expected based on Trump's remarks.

Trump/Americans win again, as we didn’t have an Obama or Clintoon rushing in to sign those agreements.

It is far better to negotiate bilateral trade deals between two sovereign nations that addresses specific needs/situations than try to fit many nations into Globalist one size fit all deals.

No wonder the Globalists hate President Trump!

Ashley Parker, fake journalist, thinks I am supposed to be upset? Trump knew this would happen....trade happens ALL THE TIME between other nations, Ashley. More obfuscation that has nothing to do with the America First agenda.

I mean, let’s say the World Chess champion says “I will not play a championship match for less than $1,000,000.” Then the champion goes home. Ashley the fake journalist then notices the numbers 2, 3. and 4 players in the world have a tournament. Has NOTHING to do w/the champ. But Ashley thinks it is a major “burn”.

Lots of window lickers in “journalism” these days.

Because Trump pulled out of the TPP. What did they expect would happen? The eleven countries cancel the whole deal?

Let all those foolish countries give up their sovereignty and constitutions for rule by a globalist master class.
