California sheriffs who opposed adopting a sanctuary state law are now being tasked with implementing the law in their jails and retention policies. The law, which began as Senate Bill 54, was issued in response to President Trumps campaign against illegal immigration.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the sanctuary law is designed to limit the people that California law enforcement agencies can detain, question or investigate at the request of federal immigration officials. But its impact will largely rely on county sheriffs whose departments play a vital role in immigration enforcement.
In sum, the law is an attempt to limit cooperation with federal authorities and federal immigration policies. It makes sheriffs the final arbiter over who can and cannot see the immigration status of those detained in county facilities. This puts sheriffs in a tough spot, particularly those who were elected in conservative or rural areas.

Maybe the sheriffs could choose to not follow that law. After all, it’s okay to ignore federal immigration law.
Why are no patriotic groups challenging this in court? We always play by the rules and the scum doesn’t. If we did it like they do we would get a hold on the laws implementation, shop for a friendly judge, and force it to the Supreme Court.
Because at present a judge would toss it with no standing to sue. Until the first proven act of sanctuary has been carried out as a consequence of the new law then there is not standing
Federal Law Trump’s state law. Some of these sheriff’s should challenge Moonbeam and the illegal lobby in Federal court.
If it’s okay for States to defy federal law, why can’t local governments defy State laws? Sheriffs swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, not their state government.
The lunacy is so over the top it is criminal. Everyone who is part of this “sanctuary” practice is guilty of the federal felony of harboring illegal aliens. ICE, lock them all up.
I suggest they release these illegals by dropping them off in the neighborhoods of Democrat lawmakers.
I don’t understand why they have to enforce a law they don’t agree with. Isn’t that what the law says? A legislator who takes a stand against the law, can’t expect others to follow his laws.
Can’t they sue since they are being compelled to break federal law?
