I am sure I have said this before, but my routine after spec op on a sub was to go far into the desert and decompress

Sit alone for days

When you first go on patrol things get wiggy, girl problems is the major factor, and you gotta get these guys off that thought and into the mission

Then you get your mind in the job and you find a rhythm.

2 weeks back in transit and guys get wiggy again thinking about girls

That does sound like a good way to decompress. After being on a sub with so many others, wide open spaces and some solitude ...... aaaaaaahhhh.

After the close quarters on a sub, I’m sure wide open spaces felt really restful and a relief. You’re still a loner. :)

I’m glad you have the VFW, though, so you don’t become a real, REAL hermit. Ya know?
