The Senate campaign arm of the Republican Party on Friday severed ties with Roy Moore, one day after the Washington Post reported that Moore had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and pursued inappropriate relationships with several other teenagers while he was a district attorney in his 30s.
As the Daily Beast first reported, a joint fundraising committee supporting Moores election bid and the Republican Party filed paperwork Friday morning dropping the National Republican Senatorial Committee from its list of beneficiaries. The Alabama Republican Party and the Republican National Committee remain linked to the campaign.
Moore has strongly denied the allegations, calling them a the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.
After supporting incumbent Luther Strange in the Sept. 26 special primary, the NRSC initially threw its weight behind Moore in the general election against Democrat Doug Jones.
Our focus is always on keeping a strong Republican majority in the Senate, and that includes Alabama, NRSC chairman Cory Gardner said in a statement at the time. Roy Moore will be imperative to passing a conservative agenda, and we support him in keeping this seat in Republican hands.
But Gardner changed his tune after the allegations against Moore became public, saying he should drop out of the election if they proved true. The committees decision to sever ties indicates theyve heard enough to withdraw their support.
Alabama Republicans, meanwhile, have closed ranks around their candidate, with many claiming the allegations were a Democratic conspiracy, others diminishing their significance, and some even saying theyd still support Moore even if the allegations of sexual abuse were true.
I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldnt want to vote for Doug, Bibb County chairman Jerry Pow told Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star. Im not saying I support what he did.
I just donated. Link to website from facebook page. Looked legit...

I just now did — more than I should, but I feel good about it. God help us.
The swamp has been Mach 5 agitated for 24 hours. I suspect there is a whopper of a Friday evening news dump that’s bad for democrats.
They (GOPe) never supported Judge Moore so how can they NOT support him?
I don’t donate to the RNC, I donate directly to the person running...that way the money gets to where it is suppose to go...
What was the delay. Did they want to be sure that the accuser was actually a living human?
“Im just about to pull my support ffrom the Republican Party period.”
No longer registered Republican. F those scumbags.
“Im just about to pull my support ffrom the Republican Party period.”
Just about!? You sure you’re ready? BTW, I heard the Japanese surrendered, the war is over!
Years after I withdrew my support for the NRSC.
The Establishment Republicans are acting rather quickly over highly suspicious allegations by questionable sources. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?
Are the Establishment Republicans the sources themselves? Or are they working with the Democrats to discredit Roy Moore?
This looks like a coordinated smear campaign by corrupt politicians.
What do you think? The swamp is very stinky and deep.
Well, at least they took the time to do a thorough investigation, discuss the situation with Moore and weigh all the evidence... Oh wait. Never mind.
> one day after the Washington Post reported
F’in swamp dwelling elite Aholes.
They can’t all come crashing down soon enough.
Thanks! I just donated.
Stupid RINOs.
I laugh at Freepers who are still members of this traitor party. I have never donated to the GOP in 20 years no matter how many piles of paper they mail to me. If politician has a PAC or example Palin, I would donate to that but never to this POS group.
Well, its only fair, most of us withdrew support for the NSRC years ago.
Moore is on Hannity radio show now. After listening to him, I will be shocked if he is the Senator come oath day.
