There were other reasons that Trump supported Strange, ...

I think the professionals knew Roy Moore was vulnerable. They may have already heard rumors about the teenage issue. I doubt it originated with Republicans though. The Democrats want to steal this seat.

Trump himself predicted Moore is "going to have a very hard time getting elected against the Democrat," while Strange said his opponent would be "an anchor around the neck of the party."

Would have no effect on the Trump agenda whatsoever, ...

Losing the House or Senate was have a huge effect on our agenda. The Republicans have to thread the needle to redeem the time. They need to hold the House and Senate and at least pass a tax cut package to stimulate the economy and accelerate job growth. Any Republican in Alabama will support that. A Democrat will not. If Moore goes to Washington the Democrats will make him the Foley poster boy unless he can prove the women are lying and that he never dated them. If he was familiar with them ... why would a 32 yo Assistant DA date teenagers ? It would just be toxic in today's environment given the other scandal revelations sweeping the nation. It is not the battle President Trump should fight.

I remember how the scandals of Republicans during the Bush Administration boxed him in and eventually destroyed him politically.

Motives suggest that it was GOPE. However, if it were the Democrats, they could have easily pulled the same crap on Strange or found some racial comment that Strange made over the past 30 years. This same tactic has been used against Trump, Clarence Thomas, Hannity, and many others..... In today’s world, it doesn’t have to be true, it just has to feel plausible.

Illogical; if it were it would have come out in the primary where their candidate could have benefited and won.

At this point the only thing that matters is whether Roy Moore dated these teenagers while he was in his 30s. If he can prove he never dated them, he should be free and clear.

Anyway....they are trying to ruin someone from Alabama...by saying they slept with a 14 year old? They better think that one ALL the way through. I'm just sayin'

I was thinking as you are that this could backfire. Although I did not state my reasons as eloquently as you do. Then there's the Jeff Sessions factor. Are Alabama folks amused by the treatment AG Sessions has gotten from the DC elite and from the media? Those Alabama folks just might be feeling picked on.

You need to brush up on your logic son. GOPE is smarting due to a loss of their huge investment to stop Moore, and reeling from Moore’s attacks on them. They know he wont be a GOPE team player. Somebody almost took care of one of the other senate rebels (Rand). We knew the Democrats were a Hate group, but we never expected the extremes of the GOPE now being displayed by McConnel, Corker, McCaine, Graham, etc.

This may be a democRAT campaign tactic but it is the GOP establishment elite, anti-Trumpers in the DC Swamp that are pushing this one.

More than likely coming from McTurtle himself.

Wasn’t what he’s accused of legal in Alabama (and points south) in 1979?

Moore is a moron whose removal from the bench for failing to carry out his oath (obey the law)should have disqualified him from any office requiring an oath.

YOU are a moron for not recognizing the difference between "the law" and judicial activism.

I say "Thank God" he not only stood up to them, but then refused to "go away!"

“If he was familiar with them ... why would a 32 yo Assistant DA date teenagers?”

In other words, you are quick to swallow every lie put out by the Left.

How many politicians will “date” teenagers? Politicians do not “date”.

And if Moore is not elected, it will be a democrat.

And if he is elected, the story will go away quickly because half of the elected senators have much worse backgrounds.

“Like most Americans, the president believes we cannot allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a person’s life," Sanders said. "However, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, Judge Moore will do the right thing and step aside."

You need to brush up on your logic ...

Suppose the political consultants on both sides knew this was out there. The Republicans thought if Moore was nominated the Democrat media would gladly run this story (how long as WashPost had it ready to go ?). The Republicans tried to get a safe candidate seated. They failed. Now the Democrats make their play for the seat, just like they did with other vulnerable Republican candidates (Akin, Mourdock) in 2012.

Roy Moore should have seen this coming and had a rebuttal defense already prepared (he is a lawyer after all).

Nothing was said in the White House statement about Moore dating teens.

Dating is done in public and an up and coming DA is not going to be seen in public dating under age teens.

“If you were going to create a hoax about Roy Moore, it would look exactly like this.” - Scott Adams on his Periscope blog yesterday.

My fairly low opinion of Judge Moore has nothing to do with the current controversy (which is looking more and more like a hoax), but has everything to do with his conduct as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Alabama who refused to follow the law.

Maybe the fact that as a former JAG military prosecutor I have a little firmer view of the subject than some of you apparently do colors my opinion.

My frustration that led to such kind replies from some of you upthread had to do with the fact that Moore’s shall we say “chequered past” in this regard made him more vulnerable to this type of “sneak attack”.

As Lee Elia once famously said (in a different context, and minus the blue language): “I’m frustrated, you’re dam* right I’m frustrated.” Once again the GOP is living up to its moniker as “the stupid party”. And a 100% safe seat is a toss up. Unbelievable.

Jeff Sessions on Roy Moore’s accusers: “I have no reason to doubt these young women.”

In light of what’s come out the past few days, there’s no way I could vote for Moore under any circumstances if I was an Alabama voter. You give a person the benefit of the doubt for a while, but at some point here the allegations against him became REAL credible. Even to AG Sessions (who presumably is far closer to having reliable sources than any of us do). That clinched it for me.
