Proponents of the self-driving car revolution might have preferred that what happened in Vegas on Wednesday stayed in Vegas. But as a reluctant public mulls a future of robotic vehicles, any hiccup along the way is sure to make headlines. The latest fodder for critics came from Sin City, where a driverless shuttle, apparently through no fault of its own, got into a fender bender with a semi-truck just hours after its debut, according to local news reports. “The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that it’s sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped to avoid the accident,” the City of Las Vegas said in a statement posted on its website. “Unfortunately the delivery truck did not stop and grazed the front fender of the shuttle. Had the truck had the same sensing equipment that the shuttle has the accident would have been avoided.” Nobody was injured and there was no major damage to either vehicle.

This morning on the radio it said the driver-less vehicle was in service less than 2 hours. Come on humans, we can do better than that!
You know how every once in a while you have to back up to let a semi make a turn? This shuttle doesn’t know how to do that.

The Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded at 12:07 p.m. to an accident involving the shuttle and a delivery truck on the 100 block of South Sixth Street, near Fremont Street. Damage was minor, and no one was hurt, police said.

Police determined that the shuttle came to a stop when it sensed the truck was trying to back up. However, the truck continued to back up until its tires touched the front of the shuttle.
The truck’s driver was cited for illegal backing.
The concept of the "driverless" vehicle is an absolute lie. There will be someone driving the vehicle, it just won't be YOU.

Or if the shuttle had a human driver, he could have hit on the horn, stopped further back because he sensed that the truck driver might not have seen him, or turned the wheel away from the truck, and avoided the fender bender?

I wish someone would explain to me what is behind the huge, huge push to “driverless cars”. I don’t think I can recall any piece of technology that was ever pushed as hard. I guess the real reason is so they can program the cars to lock the doors and drive you to the gulag.
In our not so distant future employed as autonomous explosive bomb delivery systems. Heard it hear first. ;-)
Demonic. Well, I hate driving, especially long distance driving. If I could get in the car, stretch out, read a book, take a nap, etc. and get there in one piece, that would be the life.
I'm 100% down with autonomous cars. Bring it on!
