'Rapid loss' of US diplomats under Trump Administration prompts fears of weakened influence [barf]

The ranks of top US diplomats are being depleted at a “dizzying” speed, the head of America’s diplomatic trade union has warned.

Since January, the number of “two-star” minister counselors has dropped by 42% and “three-star” career ministers by 14%, according to Barbara Stephenson, president of the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) and former ambassador to Panama. At the highest ranks of the State Department, the number of career ambassadors has dropped from five to two, after the retirement of three top diplomats.

“These numbers are hard to square with the stated agenda of making State and the Foreign Service stronger,” Stephenson wrote in a public letter to union members on Wednesday. “Were the U.S. military to face such a decapitation of its leadership ranks, I would expect a public outcry.”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who assumed office in February, has implemented White House proposals to cut the State Department budget by about a third. In August, he abolished most of the United States’ special envoys, including those for climate change and disability rights, as part of a restructuring plan within the 75,000 employee-strong Department of State. …

Thanks for the mention.

I haven’t been aware of the long term situation, but I have been aware of how bad it has gotten.

Hopefully, the Trump effect will saturate the diplomatic core, and shake up the leadership there substantially.

“The diplomats actually have a union.”

Unbelievable! At least they’re exposing themselves.

The diplomats that we have lost are the ones that do their best to weaken the influence of America, they are Obamites.

There is too much stock put in diplomacy. I don’t particularly care who LIKES us, as long as they FEAR us!

“Diplomacy without force of arms is like music without instruments.”

— Attributed to Frederick II of Prussia

“There is a rank due to the United States among nations, which will be withheld—if not absolutely lost—by the perception of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it. If we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.”

— George Washington, 5th Annual Message to Congress, 1793
Diplomacy and subservience never have been at any time one and the same.

Yeah. I noticed.

Alarmingly, it seems they are purging many of his trip pictures on the search engines. Got to create their false narrative.

Placemark.

A UNION? All public employees should be barred from having unions.

Thanks Olog-hai. Considering the slough-offs who Zero appointed on the basis that they'd bundled for his campaign or made large contributions, I don't see the problem with shedding many of them. And the fact that diplomats couldn't count on Zero and HItlery in Libya had some impact on enthusiasm in said employment.
