Usually it rots the liver but in Matthews’ case I think it wormed through his brain on the way to his liver.

I haven’t watched Matthews in many years, but I do remember seeing him pretty drunk on his show more than once. Good for him for being able to stop, however he did it. Never heard of his going to treatment or if he goes to meetings.
